As a seasoned gamer with a rich history of gaming experiences spanning decades, I must say this recent announcement has certainly piqued my interest. With Monster Hunter: Wilds and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii going head-to-head, it’s like choosing between my favorite sushi roll and the most succulent steak at a high-end restaurant – both tantalizing options!

As a hardcore gamer, I’m stoked about the upcoming releases! Originally slated for February 28, Monster Hunter: Wilds seems like it might have less competition on its launch week. But if you can’t wait that long, like me, then mark your calendars – Like a Dragon: Yakuza Pirate in Hawaii is moving up its departure date to February 21!

As per Masayoshi Yokoyama, the head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, they have decided to postpone the release of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii by a week. The primary reason for this delay is that the development process of the game is progressing more efficiently than initially expected.

Additionally, Yokoyama mentioned, “We aimed to let you enjoy the next game without worries.” This clearly hints at Monster Hunter: Wilds, set for release on February 28.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but marvel at the staggering success of Monster Hunter. Capcom truly struck gold with World, as it soared past all expectations to become their best-selling game ever, moving over 20 million units and still counting. Even the 2019 expansion, Iceborne, has made an impressive impact, selling a whopping 13 million copies, landing it fifth on Capcom’s list of top-selling games.

Not including the achievements of Rise, its sequel which was initially exclusive to Nintendo Switch has sold an impressive 15 million units by June 30, 2024. The Sunbreak expansion is nearing entry into the Top 10, having sold over 8.40 million copies.

In simpler terms, launching a game simultaneously with others from the same series, like “Like a Dragon,” may not guarantee its success, particularly if it’s not a primary title within the franchise. This is because it might not possess the allure that a main game would have.

As a devoted admirer, I’m excited about the new installment where the iconic character Majima is back, this time lost on an island and commandeering his own pirate vessel. However, unlike past hits such as Infinite Wealth, it promises to offer a unique and otherworldly experience that may not resonate universally with all fans.

Interestingly, it’s not unprecedented for a developer to postpone their game’s release to allow players to experience another title. For instance, when Final Fantasy XIV was originally scheduled for the Dawntrail expansion, Naoki Yoshida shared that the team opted to delay the launch by a week so fans could also enjoy Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
