As a long-time fan of Tim Allen’s work, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement when I heard about his upcoming ABC comedy series, “Shifting Gears.” The addition of Sean William Scott to the cast is just the cherry on top!
The latest ABC comedy series titled “Shifting Gears” has just secured another big name for its roster of talented actors. Sean William Scott from American Pie has been confirmed to take on a leading role, joining previously announced stars such as and Kat Dennings. The show was picked up in July and is scheduled to start filming in November. According to Variety, Allen will portray Matt, a skilled mechanic who’s both a “stubborn widower running a classic car restoration shop” and a fixer of various problems, whether they involve cars or people’s lives. Kat Dennings, known for her role in 2 Broke Girls, will play his sharp-tongued but distanced daughter who comes home with her children to rebuild their relationship.
Scott takes on the role of Gabriel, a close acquaintance of Matt and Riley who assists Matt in his workshop. With an air of mystery, his character promises to inject fresh dynamism into Matt’s garage. The ensemble cast also includes Daryl “Chill” Mitchell as Stitch, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, and Barrett Margolis as Georgia. For details about the comedy series, check out the official logline provided below.
As a true cinema enthusiast, I find myself empathizing with Matt, a determined widower who runs a classic car workshop. When my estranged daughter and her brood of adolescent offspring unexpectedly drop by, it’s not just the cars that need fixing – it’s our family relationships that require the real restoration.
The ABC Comedy Is Seann William Scott’s Third Outing as a Series Regular
Adding Seann William Scott to the cast of Shifting Gears adds an exciting dynamic, given his established acting abilities and extensive background in television. He previously held leading roles in two TV series. In the Fox comedy series, Welcome to Flatch, he takes on the character of Father Joe – a good-hearted but occasionally naive priest who yearns for a tranquil life in his small-town setting. Furthermore, Scott played Wesley Cole, a former CIA agent turned LAPD detective, in Lethal Weapon. He joined the series during its third season as a replacement for Clayne Crawford’s character after his dismissal from the show; unfortunately, the series was later discontinued.
Scott’s comedic prowess makes him the perfect fit for the dynamics that Shifting Gears is no doubt hoping to establish. With Allen and Dennings on screen, the show is sure to be equal parts hilarious and emotional, with the American Pie star bringing the right energy to provoke either laughter or conflict as the characters and their auto shop evolve over time. Michelle Nader will serve as the showrunner and executive producer alongside Tim Allen, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina and John Pasquin. The team will also play a vital role in the direction, with Dennings also on board as a producer. Moreover, Shifting Gears marks Allen’s first return to sitcoms since the ending of his hit show Last Man Standing in 2021. With Scott having now joined the project, Shifting Gears promises to be one to watch.
