Is Wanda Really Dead? Joe Locke Tells Us His Opinion, As Well As Billy’s Thoughts On It After Agatha Episode 6

As a seasoned Marvel gamer with over two decades of comics and movies under my belt, I can confidently say that the enigmatic Scarlet Witch, portrayed by the exceptional Elizabeth Olsen, has undeniably left an indelible mark on the Marvel Universe. The heart-wrenching narrative of Wanda’s quest to reunite with her lost children, Billy and Tommy, resonates deeply with many fans, myself included.

In online communities, it’s challenging to come across a present Marvel character who is more beloved than Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch. Portrayed exceptionally well by Elizabeth Olsen, she has demonstrated herself to be one of the most potent heroes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite her descent into villainy in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” her motivation – a desperate quest to find and reconnect with her children, Billy and Tommy – resonated strongly with many viewers because it stemmed from a relatable desire for family reunification.

For individuals who’ve been tuning into “Agatha All Along,” a show streaming on Disney+, it’s now clear that the character Teen, portrayed by Joe Locke, is in fact reborn as Billy Maximoff and will take on the role of Wiccan. Previously, Billy embarked on The Witches’ Road in search of his missing twin brother, Tommy. During a special interview with Locke for “Agatha All Along” Episode 6, we discussed the present condition of Wanda, who lost her mother in the storyline. To clarify for those at home, in the finale of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” Wanda gave up her life to destroy all known copies of the Darkhold. However, it’s important to note that there could be undiscovered copies still in existence.

Joe Locke considered Wanda’s destiny, taking into account both his personal viewpoint and that of the character he portrays. In a conversation with TopMob, he expressed this perspective.

Billy doesn’t think she has a beating heart, no. … As a fan, I think Wanda’s the best. I kept getting asked, like, ‘Who are my favorite Marvel characters’ in the junket. And I always said Black Widow. Because she is one of my favorite characters. But my favorite character is Wanda. I just felt like, if I said Wanda, it’d be too on the nose. So as a Wanda fan, I’d love her not to be dead. But as a Marvel actor who knows more than most, I don’t know if she is or not.

Joe Locke was referring to a line in Agatha All Along Episode 6, where Agatha tells Billy that every witch with a beating heart can hear him now. That instantly made me think of the believed-to-be-dead Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen)… because I don’t believe that she is actually dead. For starters, there are still too many important Wanda stories that can be told in upcoming Marvel movies, particularly when the MCU refocuses on mutants. But also, there have been persistent rumors regarding a solo Scarlet Witch movie, and I’m willing to bet that is in the cards for Olsen. We just need Kevin Feige to announce it from the stage of Hall H, or possibly at D23.

Currently, Agatha All Along is wrapping up on Disney+, introducing us to teenager Tommy and potentially bringing back Wanda. Following this, there’s a gap of a few months before Marvel graces the big screen again, with Anthony Mackie taking over as Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World, hitting cinemas worldwide in February 2025.
