‘My Butt’s Had A Lot Of Screen Time:’ The Boys' Jack Quaid Shares Thoughts On Hugie's Nudity Ahead Of Final Season

As a fan who has followed Jack Quaid‘s career since his debut in “A Dog’s Purpose,” it’s fascinating to see him navigate the complexities of stardom, especially when it comes to his on-screen nudity in “The Boys.” While I can’t help but appreciate the visual spectacle that his character’s journey provides, I empathize with his desire for a wardrobe upgrade in Season 5.

You can tell you’re watching one of Amazon’s top Prime Video series, “The Boys,” when scenes involve superheroes and octopuses, numerous decapitations, milk obsession, aggressive desires to kill, and frequent displays of Jack Quaid’s backside. Despite this, the actor doesn’t necessarily view his on-screen nudity as a positive aspect, and he seems quite conscious of its frequency. In fact, he seems overjoyed at the idea that his bottom might not be featured in “The Boys” Season 5 at all.

As a dedicated fan, I must admit I’m not exactly jumping up and down at the prospect of seeing my character strip down for the final season of “The Boys.” Fingers crossed it graces our screens sometime in 2025. During a live podcast recording at New York Comic Con on Happy Sad Confused (as reported by People), Quaid shared his thoughts on baring all again, explaining:

I’d really prefer if we could move away from excessive nudity. My backside has been quite prominent, and frankly, it’s not my best feature, if you take my drift.

Even though it doesn’t appear that he showed signs of discomfort about exposing his backside during different scenes throughout the series so far, I bet it would make him happier if showrunner Eric Kripke promised that there wouldn’t be any more nudity involving Hughie for the rest of his on-screen time. Given the ordeal his character endured in Tek Knight’s sex dungeon, and considering Quaid’s comfort as well, it seems reasonable to allow him to keep his clothes on from now on.

An actor’s comfort level about appearing nude on screen might not solely depend on personal self-consciousness or ego, but could also be influenced by the possibility of friends and family serving as the audience. Even if the scene isn’t explicitly sexual, it can still feel incredibly awkward. Recently, Jack Quaid discussed whether his famous parents, Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, have watched the Amazon Prime Video series where he appears nude. In his words:

Indeed, for a more polite and straightforward rephrasing: Yes, I would advise against watching Season 3 of the show. There are scenes featuring me, and I feel uncomfortable if anyone from my family watches those parts, as they involve me quite extensively.

It’s worth noting that Jack Quaid isn’t the only one in his family to expose themselves on screen. His father, Dennis Quaid, has shown varying degrees of undress in numerous projects like “The Big Easy”, “Everybody’s All-American”, and “In Good Company”. He even engaged in intimate scenes with his then-wife Meg Ryan in “Flesh and Bone”. As for whether Jack has watched any of these films featuring Dennis in such roles, that remains unclear.

It’s fortunate that Jack Quaid’s nude scenes haven’t been a significant issue for him, as they never exceeded his comfort zone. Previously, he shared with Glamour that becoming comfortable with being naked on set becomes only slightly easier over time. However, knowing the crew well and feeling like a family makes it less stressful because of this close bond.

While you’re waiting for “The Boys” to come back, take a look at the upcoming superhero films that are coming up next. Also, don’t forget to check out HBO’s “The Franchise” for another entertaining satire centered on creating comic book superhero movies.
