Andrew Garfield Says Jessica Chastain “Rearranged” ‘Eyes of Tammy Faye’ Filming So He Could See His Mother Before She Died

As a gamer with a soft spot for heartwarming stories, I can’t help but admire Andrew Garfield and Jessica Chastain even more after learning about their bond during the filming of “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” In a world where schedules are often sacrosanct, it’s refreshing to see such understanding and compassion shown by these two talented actors.

Andrew Garfield is reminiscing about the fact that Jessica Chastain helped him arrange time with his mom, Lynn Garfield, prior to her passing from pancreatic cancer in 2019.

In a chat with People magazine, the actor has shared his heartfelt appreciation towards his co-star from ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’ for the support she provided him during a challenging period in his life, stating he will always be grateful to her.

It was remarkable that David Greenbaum from Searchlight Pictures, along with Jessica, suddenly adjusted the plan – they paused filming in North Carolina temporarily to allow me to return to England for 10 days so I could be with my mother.

Garfield mentioned that he and Chastain often had profound discussions since they were learning more about each other on a personal level. I’m incredibly thankful for those moments with her, as they coincided with the period when my mother was gravely ill and eventually passed away.

In 2021, two actors played leading roles in a biographical film that chronicled the journey of Tammy Faye Bakker, a televangelist known for her rise, fall, and eventual redemption. She later established the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and a Christian-themed amusement park. Garfield took on the character of Jim Bakker, while Chastain portrayed Tammy.

In the film “We Live in Time,” the actor recalled a touching custom they shared during production, which involved her giving him a lift and driving them both to Heritage USA, the current closed Christian theme park owned by the Bakers.

Garfield shared that every Sunday, we’d visit that spot,” he said to the media outlet. “It was about connecting with the spirits of Jim and Tammy, as well as honoring the location where they built their sanctuary, in a sense, for both their divine entity and themselves.

Recently, the star of The Amazing Spider-Man shared with The Hollywood Reporter that working on his newest film, We Live in Time, alongside Florence Pugh, was a therapeutic journey after the passing of his mother at 69 years old.

Every living creature on Earth, from the smallest insect to the mightiest dinosaur, has experienced the loss of a mother. At one point, he shared that young dinosaurs were also losing their mothers. On a personal level, this act – creating something in memory of those losses – felt like a straightforward way for him to heal, and he hoped it could offer healing to others as well.
