As a lifelong petrolhead and avid BMW enthusiast, I can hardly contain my excitement about the unveiling of the new BMW M2 Racing! Being a regular at the Nürburgring, I’ve seen my fair share of racing models on the “Green Hell,” but this one has piqued my interest like no other.
BMW M Motorsport recently revealed their newest budget racer, previously hinted at in August – the BMW M2 Racing. This model made its debut at the DTM season finale held in Hockenheim, and has since undergone its initial test in the grueling Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) on the Nordschleife, known colloquially as the “Green Hell.
According to the blueprint of the BMW M2 manufacturing model, the BMW M2 Racing has been engineered specifically for entry-level motorsport, featuring modifications that prioritize cost-effectiveness and performance. Recently, this vehicle successfully participated in a four-hour test race on the Nordschleife under the FK Performance Motorsport Team, with BMW M works drivers Max Hesse and Jens Klingmann at the wheel. It’s worth mentioning that the car demonstrated impressive performance across 27 laps, handling diverse weather conditions along the way.
Björn Lellmann, leading BMW M Motorsport’s Customer Racing, expressed delight with the initial outing, noting it was a crucial advancement in our ongoing development process. Drivers Hesse and Klingmann commended the vehicle’s handling and emphasized the successful data gathering during this run, which will be instrumental in planning future trials.
At Hockenheim, spectators got their first glimpse of the fresh design, adorned with whimsical “Easter Eggs” depicting racetrack layouts. Meanwhile, the test vehicle was wrapped in camouflage for its debut at the Nürburgring. Additional testing is scheduled for 2025, with the model expected to become available for customers during the 2026 racing season.
