Akshay Kumar asked Suneel Darshan to make THIS promise after he met Hrithik Roshan; director recalls actor getting teary-eyed when a producer insulted him

As an ardent fan of Akshay Kumar, I find his journey in Bollywood nothing short of inspiring. The tale of resilience and determination that he embodies is truly captivating. From facing rejection and disrespect to rising above it all and making a name for himself, Akshay has shown us the true meaning of perseverance.

Akshay Kumar, famously known as Khiladi Kumar, has had an impressive run in Bollywood, with iconic characters throughout his more than three-decade career. In a recent chat, filmmaker Suneel Darshan disclosed that during a phase of flops, a producer refused to display Akshay’s image on a billboard and belittled him, stating he wasn’t deserving of such recognition. Furthermore, when the producer thought about casting Hrithik Roshan in a movie, Akshay advised the producer to cast Hrithik in his next hundred films instead.

Movie Director Suneel Darshan, known for working with Akshay Kumar on projects like Andaaz and Ek Rishtaa, revealed in an interview with Friday Talkies that during a challenging period in Akshay’s career when movies like Hera Pheri and Dhadkan were not coming out, Darshan bravely chose to cast him in the film Jaanwar.

As an ardent admirer, let me recount a tale shared by Suneel, a narrative that unfolded just days before the premiere of their beloved film starring Kumar. In this tale, another movie starring the Welcome actor was slated for release, yet unnamed in his account. The producer, in this story, showed an appalling disregard towards Kumar, going so far as to claim he wasn’t worthy of a billboard – a statement that speaks volumes about the producer’s character, not Kumar’s talent.

In further explanation, the filmmaker disclosed, “Akshay Kumar dropped by at my office regularly during that period. One particular day, he visited me in tears. He had just conversed with his movie’s producer who told him, ‘You don’t have the status to have billboards set up.’ Hearing this was the first time I felt apprehensive. However, I managed my feelings and decided to take action.

Following Kumar’s presentation, the producer of Andaaz opted to boost his profile rather than withdrawing their support. Instead, they elected to showcase Akshay Kumar solo on the most prominent billboard in Juhu, omitting the film’s leading actresses, Shilpa Shetty and Karisma Kapoor, who were box office sensations at that time. Despite underperforming in Mumbai, the movie garnered massive success across the country once it was released.

Upon learning that Suneel had met with Hrithik Roshan for a potential project, I decided to pop by his office unannounced. Looking back, Suneel Darshan recounted the event by saying, “He inquired if I was working on a film with Hrithik Roshan. I asked where he had heard that. He mentioned he’d heard about our encounter at Rakesh Roshan’s office. I clarified that I had visited him to view some of his son’s songs. His response was casual, and then he gripped my hand, asking me to promise to make 100 films with him.

Professionally speaking, Akshay is facing a tough time lately. Over the past year, his last dozen movies haven’t been successful at the cinema, but he’s persistently putting effort into his upcoming projects like Sky Force, Shankara, Jolly LLB 3, and Housefull 5.

Previously, it was exclusively revealed by TopMob that the actor’s movie, Sky Force, is set for release on Republic Day in 2025. Fans should get excited as the trailer is slated to drop on Christmas.
