Bipasha Basu shot Lamhaa in curfew-hit Kashmir after Karisma Kapoor and Deepika Padukone refused to shoot in the valley recalls Rahul Dholakia

As an ardent admirer of the grit and determination that filmmakers exhibit, I find Rahul Dholakia’s journey to be nothing short of inspiring. His unwavering dedication to bring Lamhaa to life, amidst the tumultuous conditions in Kashmir, is a testament to his passion for storytelling.

In simpler terms, “Lamhaa” is an action-thriller directed by Rahul Dholakia, which narrates the story of a covert Indian Army officer tasked with identifying the perpetrator behind extremist attacks in Kashmir. The film boasts some spine-tingling shots from the valley, but shooting there was challenging due to the curfew. Despite actresses like Karisma Kapoor and Deepika Padukone turning down the role, Bipasha Basu stepped up and braved the curfew to complete the movie’s filming.

As a devoted follower, I’d like to share my perspective on a memorable moment during the production of a film. I was speaking with Mashable India when I reflected upon the harrowing experiences and obstacles encountered while filming in Kashmir. In an unexpected turn of events, Rahul Dholakia disclosed that he had to devise a strategy to persuade Bipasha Basu to film amidst a curfew, as Karisma Kapoor and Deepika Padukone chose not to participate in the challenging shoot in the Kashmir valley. He reminisced about being detained alongside 10,000 others for roughly 4-4.5 hours on the first day of filming, following which Bipasha Basu decided to leave the set.

Eventually, she went back to complete her initial task. He expressed, “I was shooting during curfew with Bipasha, and she got quite upset with me because I didn’t inform her about the curfew.” At that moment, Basu was delighted and captivated by the enchanting Kashmir. However, when she learned about the curfew, she called him and exclaimed, “How could you make me shoot during a curfew?” During the same conversation, he disclosed that neither Karisma nor Deepika Padukone agreed to collaborate with him on shooting in Kashmir because they had just given birth and didn’t want to participate. Rahul further shared this information.

Speaking about his past experience as a hostage, the creator of Parzania explained that he was confined in a room with approximately 400 people and informed, ‘You are against Kashmir.’ Fortunately, after several hours, they were released because someone identified him as the filmmaker who won the National Film Award. Notably, Rahul Dholakia is recognized for films such as Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar, Mumbai Cutting, Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan’s Raees, among others.
