L.A. Dodgers Headed to World Series After Beating Mets, Will Face Yankees in the Fall Classic

As a lifelong baseball enthusiast who has witnessed countless games and seasons, I can confidently say that this World Series matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees is shaping up to be one for the history books!

Tommy Edman and Will Smith hit home runs, propelling Shohei Ohtani to his debut in the World Series for the first time, as the Los Angeles Dodgers knocked out the New York Mets with a 10-5 win in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday night.

As a hardcore gamer, I’ve just scored my 25th NL pennant record, a feat not achieved by the Dodgers at home since 1988 when we triumphed over the Mets in a thrilling seven-game series. This victory propelled us into our 22nd World Series, marking our 13th time playing in Los Angeles. It’s been a long wait since our last game in 2020, where we claimed victory against Tampa Bay during the pandemic-delayed season.

Up next for us here in the gaming world of baseball, it’s Aaron Judge and his New York Yankees squad. They’re making a comeback to the World Series after 15 long years, and this time they’re back stronger than ever. The first game is set for Friday at Dodger Stadium, where I’ll be facing off against Judge (who’s racked up an impressive 58 homers this season) and myself with my 54 homers. This epic showdown will be streamed live on Fox. Let the games begin!

This upcoming World Series will mark our twelfth encounter with the storied rival team, a matchup that hasn’t occurred since 43 years ago. Historically, my favorite team, the Yankees, has come out on top eight times against them, while their two championships versus us were in 1981 and 1955.

In his initial season with the Dodgers following an unprecedented contract agreement in free agency, Ohtani delivered two hits and scored two runs in Game 6. He batted at a remarkable .364 with two home runs and six RBIs during the NLCS. Given that he had just embarked on his postseason journey after spending six years with the Los Angeles Angels – a team that never managed a winning season or qualified for the playoffs during his tenure, this performance was nothing short of impressive.

In the eighth inning, Blake Treinen of the Dodgers’ bullpen managed to strike out Brandon Nimmo, Mark Vientos, and Pete Alonso without them getting a hit, marking his first two-inning appearance since the 2021 National League Championship Series.

As a gamer, I found myself on the edge of my seat when the Dodgers fell behind 1-0 early in the game. But then, our cleanup hitter, Edman, stepped up to the plate and delivered. He drove in our first four runs, tying a franchise record set by Corey Seager in 2020 against Atlanta with his impressive 11 RBIs in the NLCS. It’s only been a few months since I watched him join the Dodgers at the July trade deadline from St. Louis, but he’s already making a big impact on our team!

In their second attempt, the Dodgers knocked out the Mets from the series. The Dodgers dominated New York by a score of 40 to 26 across the six matches. Not a single game was tightly contested, as the Dodgers secured two shutouts in the process.

The Mets came within two wins of reaching the World Series after a 22-33 start.

In the initial inning, Edman’s double to the left-field corner off Sean Manaea resulted in Ohtani and Hernández scoring, as they had both singled earlier. This double play ended Hernández’s 0-for-18 slump in the NLCS. It took Manaea 34 pitches to complete the first inning.

In the third inning with two strikes against him, Edman smashed a towering two-run home run that traveled 406 feet to left-center. Following this, Max Muncy drew a walk and shortly after, Smith hit a 416-foot homerun to center field off Phil Maton, boosting the lead to 6-1.

In the fourth inning, the Mets reduced their gap to 6-3, as Vientos smashed a two-run homer – his fifth of the playoffs – against Ryan Brasier. Vientos’ historic first career grand slam was the highlight of the Mets tying the series in Game 2 at Dodger Stadium.

Twice, New York missed an opportunity with bases full when they didn’t score. With the score 6-3 in the sixth, Jesse Winker flew out versus Evan Phillips, ending the inning. In the third, trailing by a single run, the Mets filled the bases against Anthony Banda but Jeff McNeil whiffed on a swinging strikeout.
