Kaley Cuoco On Penny’s Possible Return to Chuck Lorre’s Big Bang Theory Universe

Kaley Cuoco On Penny's Possible Return to Chuck Lorre's Big Bang Theory Universe

As a long-time fan of The Big Bang Theory who has spent countless hours laughing and learning from the brilliant minds of Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, Raj, and Penny, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia upon hearing Kaley Cuoco’s words about her willingness to return as Penny. The show was more than just a television program; it was a cultural phenomenon that brought science, humor, and heart to millions around the world.

In the ongoing expansion of the universe portrayed in “The Big Bang Theory,” actress Kaley Cuoco has expressed a willingness to reprise her role as Penny. Originating from the minds of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, “The Big Bang Theory” revolved around a circle of scientists, engineers, and their acquaintances. Throughout its 12-season tenure on CBS, Cuoco played the beloved character Penny, a role she held since the show’s debut in 2007 until it concluded in 2019. During a recent chat with PEOPLE, Cuoco reminisced about her time portraying Penny on the award-winning sitcom.

For 12 years, I immersed myself in that role, which served as a significant catalyst for my professional growth. I’m deeply indebted to that character, the series, and its creator, Chuck Lorre, as they played a pivotal part in my life.

Cuoco said she would “100%” be open to reprising the role of Penny, adding:

I love that character, and I always will.

Just recently, I find myself echoing similar sentiments as Jim Parsons, the brilliant actor who brought Sheldon Cooper to life on The Big Bang Theory. Not long ago, he hinted at the idea of resurrecting our beloved series through a potential reboot.

At this moment, I’m not considering it, but I wouldn’t rule out anything because life has a way of surprising us. To be honest, what we had then was unique and irreplaceable, which is why they call it ‘capturing lightning in a bottle.’ I can’t imagine repeating that experience. However, circumstances can change, so I can’t say for sure how I feel about it at this moment. But let’s see, with hope for the future, life is long.

“Young Sheldon,” a show that came before “The Big Bang Theory,” ended earlier this year, but it has led to a new spinoff titled “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.” This series airs on CBS every Thursday and features Montana Jordan and Emily Osment reprising their roles as Georgie Cooper and Mandy McAllister. Additionally, another show based in the same universe as “The Big Bang Theory” is rumored to be in development, with Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn, and Lauren Lapkus returning to their original roles. It’s said that this new series will center around Stuart’s comic book store.

In the upcoming season of “Based on a True Story“, Cuoco will reappear. This series revolves around a realtor and a former tennis player who leverage the true crime trend by producing a podcast about a local homicide. The show, which humorously critiques society’s fascination with true crime, is set to resume on Peacock on November 21st.

I can’t wait for you to see it! Filming season 1 was fantastic, but I believe we outdid ourselves in season 2. It’s a real laugh riot, yet it has this eerie, captivating darkness that I find incredibly intriguing. I’m absolutely thrilled about it!

In “The Big Bang Theory,” Cooke and Parsons shared the screen with Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Mayim Bialik.

It is available to stream on Max.
