BANKS Brings on Doechii for “I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend”

As a longtime fan of BANKS, I can confidently say that her latest collaboration with Doechii, “I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend,” is a refreshing and energetic addition to her discography. Having grown up listening to BANKS’ sultry, introspective songs, it’s exciting to see her step into new musical territory while still maintaining her signature style.

With “I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend” marking BANKS’ first studio release since 2022, this dynamic twosome showcases their combined strength in a powerful two-and-a-half-minute anthem, demonstrating that they make an unexpected but potent team.

On the captivating chorus, BANKS seductively sings, “I find your ex-girlfriend unsuitable,” or more gently put, “I don’t feel she’s a good fit.” Additionally, she expresses her displeasure with, “She has a simple appearance that needs improvement,” and emphatically suggests, “She should let go of her empty pursuits.

In the second verse, Doechii enters the scene, weaving clever rhymes as she raps: “I’d label her like a toe tag, just like a French manicure / Decorate her grave with a bow, as if it were Christmas / You’re a sick woman, may you wish for your own death / Scarlet letter and then I seal it with a French kiss.

The song ‘I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend,’ directed by Charlie Denis, is now out. This track follows Doechii’s recognition from Kendrick Lamar and marks BANKS’ first solo release since her album ‘Serpentina,’ which came out in April 2022.
