Kaikai Kiki Gallery Presents ‘LONGER THAN THE MYTH OF THE GALAXY
alternative future’ By Aya Takano

As a long-time follower of Aya Takano’s mesmerizing work, I am absolutely thrilled to hear about her upcoming solo exhibition, “LONGER THAN THE MYTH OF THE GALAXY alternative future.” It’s been a decade since we last witnessed her magical oil paintings, and I can hardly contain my excitement! The fusion of reality and fantasy that Takano masterfully portrays in her work is nothing short of captivating.

Aya Takano, one of the original Superflat artists under Takashi Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki Co., is coming back with a new individual exhibit. Titled “LONGER THAN THE MYTH OF THE GALAXY alternative future“, this exhibition will be Takano’s first solo presentation in ten years.

The first part of the exhibition’s title comes from a phrase found in Emma Yukifune’s book titled “Breakfast for Lovers on Earth,” which Takano was asked to create the cover illustration for. On the other hand, the second half of the show’s name reflects the main topic that ties together all the displayed works.

At the center of the gallery stands an array of fresh oil paintings, arranged in a circular pattern. Accompanying these works is a unique diorama, meticulously designed and built, inviting visitors to explore the artist’s enigmatic views of the past, present, and future.

Aya Takano’s solo exhibition titled “LONGER THAN THE MYTH OF THE GALAXY: An Alternative Future” will debut on November 2, 2024, at the Kaikai Kiki Gallery in Tokyo. The show will run until November 30, 2024. Simultaneously, from November 15 to November 26, Takano will present her first curated exhibition, “AYA’s friends’ ALTERNATIVE FUTURE“, at Hidari Zingaro, showcasing a variety of artworks by 13 other artists.
