Wales Bonner x adidas Originals FW24 Pays Tribute to the Home of Hip-Hop

As a connoisseur of fashion who’s been around the block a few times, I must say that Wales Bonner’s latest collaboration with adidas Originals is nothing short of a game-changer. Her ability to merge British subculture, Caribbean roots, and global African influences into timeless streetwear designs is truly remarkable.

Wales Bonner’s distinctive take on timeless Adidas designs has cemented her position as an innovative streetwear designer, renowned for crossing boundaries. By blending influences from British subcultures, her Caribbean heritage, and the global African diaspora into Adidas’s aesthetic, she brings a fresh perspective to the brand. This new collection is a tribute to the birthplace of Hip-Hop.

In simple terms, the advertising campaign photographed by Rennell Medrano is centered around the iconic New York City neighborhood of Harlem, serving as the backdrop for a new collection. This collection primarily focuses on innovative versions of the adidas Superstar and Samba shoes, along with an assortment of vintage-inspired streetwear staples.

Bonner persists in refining the traditional Samba design with two patent leather variations that mimic crocodile skin texture. The upper part of the shoe comes in a toasty brown shade and a rich indigo hue, while the contrast is established by cream-toned woven tongues and stitching at the heel.

The latest Samba Millenium takes a leap by offering three distinct color schemes. These colorways feature sleek leather extending to the quarter part of the shoe, while the heel area is adorned with crocodile-like print leather. Lastly, Bonner unveils an upgraded edition of their famous Superstar model, reinvented using a repeated reptilian leather texture, patent leather stripes, and satin lining.

This contemporary clothing line evokes the proportions and fits reminiscent of the 1970s, echoing the styles that originated from Hip-Hop’s pioneers. Floral patterns, groovy and vibrant, adorn shorts, tops, and cropped polo shirts, while tracksuits in vivid hues such as tangerine orange and turquoise blue are abundant. Stepping away from the understated luxury of today, the adidas logo is prominently featured on graphic tees, jackets, and hoodies, creating a more nostalgic feel.

Global release of the Wales Bonner x adidas Originals Fall-Winter 2024 collection is scheduled for October 24th. You can grab it from the adidas online store, through their CONFIRMED app, or at selected retailers.
