As a lifelong fan of both Blade Runner and Tesla, I find myself at a crossroads between two worlds that I hold dear. On one hand, I admire Elon Musk for his groundbreaking work in electric vehicles and space exploration. On the other, I cherish the cinematic masterpiece that is Blade Runner 2049.
The production firm behind Blade Runner 2049, Alcon Entertainment, is filing a lawsuit against Elon Musk, Tesla, and Warner Bros. Discovery, claiming they unlawfully used AI-generated images depicting scenes from the movie for the introduction of Tesla’s latest self-driving Robotaxi.
In a recent copyright lawsuit, Alcon Corporation has taken legal action against parties involved in the production of a film featuring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. The company claims that this movie does not have any association with Tesla, Elon Musk, or any businesses owned by him. The reason being, they argue that Musk’s behavior is excessive, politically charged, unpredictable, and sometimes borders on hate speech.
The legal document claims, “The misuse of funds in this case was significant. Alcon has invested decades and hundreds of millions of dollars to make the ‘BR2049’ brand as famous as it is today. Previous contracts related to ‘BR2049’ with automotive companies involved amounts in the billions.” However, at that time, neither Tesla, Musk, nor Warner Bros. Discovery had issued a response.
