Jeremy Irvine to Play Gay Firefighter Turned Ballroom Dancer in ‘The Light Fantastic’

As a die-hard fan of ballroom dancing, movies, and heartwarming tales of personal growth, I am absolutely thrilled about Chris Cottam directing “The Light Fantastic”! The cast is just phenomenal – Jeremy Irvine, Rupert Everett, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Layton Williams are all superb talents.

Award-winning director Chris Cottam is all set to helm “The Light Fantastic,” an upcoming comedy about ballroom dancing that features Jeremy Irvine, Rupert Everett, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, and Layton Williams in the lead roles. Cornerstone will kick off global distribution for this film at the American Film Market (AFM) held in Las Vegas.

Based on real events, “The Light Fantastic” delves into the life of Jason (Irvine), a 30-something gay firefighter with dreams of turning pro in ballroom dancing. This tale unfolds in the vibrant city of Blackpool, where we follow Jason’s personal exploration as he defies conventional ballroom dance norms under the guidance of his traditional mentor Reynolds (Everett).

As a dance enthusiast, I can’t wait to see the upcoming movie where the renowned dance duo Mark and Shirley Ballas will be showcasing their choreography. Known for his three wins on Dancing with the Stars and her role as head judge on Strictly Come Dancing in the UK, this dynamic mother-son team is sure to bring some amazing moves to the big screen. Debbie Gray, who produced Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, will be overseeing production for Genesius Pictures, and principal photography is set to start in the UK early next year. I’m already marking my calendar!

The screenplay is penned by Lee Warburton, who has worked on projects such as Shameless, This is Going to Hurt, and Scott & Bailey. Previously, Cottam took the director’s chair for The Problem with People. Irvine gained recognition through his performances in War Horse, The Railway Man, and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!
