‘The L Word’ Creator Ilene Chaiken and Star Jennifer Beals Launch Multimedia Brand Run-A-Muck

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant worlds of entertainment, I find myself genuinely excited about the latest venture by Ilene Chaiken and Jennifer Beals – Run-A-Muck, a queer media brand. Their combined experience in creating groundbreaking content like The L Word and its spinoff, Generation Q, has undoubtedly paved the way for a new era of representation and storytelling.

Two forces behind the beloved Showtime series The L Word have found their way back together.

Ilene Chaiken and Jennifer Beals have partnered to establish Run-A-Muck, a versatile queer media company that plans to create content for film, television, and live events. While they haven’t disclosed any ongoing projects yet, they have unveiled their partners in the Run-A-Muck project. The duo is joined by fellow founders Caroline Joyner, WME’s director of impact and inclusion, and Jenn Smira, a business executive and entrepreneur in the queer community.

As a passionate gamer and storyteller, I’m thrilled to say that queerness is no longer an afterthought, but a driving force in shaping our creative worlds. From my experiences working on shows like The L Word: Generation Q, Empire, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Stumptown, and The Handmaid’s Tale, I can confidently assert that we’ve crossed a significant milestone. Today, queer artists are leading the charge in the entertainment realm, and my new media company, Run-A-Muck, aims to bridge the gap between these talented creators and fans who cherish their work.

Speaking in her own words, Beals, who identifies as straight, observed the impact queer culture has on audiences, irrespective of personal identity. She stated, “The media landscape is evolving, and the queer community is spearheading this change. Our aim is to create stories that are deeply significant, captivating, and entertaining, which strike a chord with people from various generations and communities.” The actress, recognized for her roles in Flashdance and a diverse portfolio including Taken, The Book of Boba Fett, Proof, Lie to Me, The Chicago Code, Lauren, Swamp Thing, and Law & Order: Organized Crime, commented. “My experience with The L Word taught me that when we focus on queer culture, it grants everyone, regardless of their identity, the freedom to embrace their true selves.

Chaiken hinted that the company is moving forward with a significant business collaboration which they plan to reveal at a later time. To add, Run-A-Muck will cater to the market by assisting brands in staying current and consistent with cultural trends. “We understand the immense potential this offers for brands,” she stated.
