HBO to Follow U.S. Men’s Soccer Team in World Cup Run-Up

As a die-hard soccer fan and someone who has spent countless hours cheering for my beloved U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team, this news from HBO is nothing short of exhilarating! Having been through the highs and lows of qualifying tournaments and World Cup appearances, I can only imagine the behind-the-scenes drama and camaraderie that will unfold over the next few years.

HBO is delving deeply into the United States men’s national soccer team, as they ready themselves for hosting the 2026 World Cup.

The high-definition TV channel is currently creating a documentary series, which focuses on the team’s preparations for the upcoming international event that America, Canada, and Mexico will co-host. HBO Sports Documentaries and Park Stories are collaborating with both the U.S. Soccer Federation and the U.S. National Soccer Team Players Association in making this series.

Production of the show will carry on for the following two years, with broadcast scheduled for 2026. The upcoming World Cup, a record-breaking event, is slated to commence on June 11, 2026 and involve 48 countries, marking the largest number of participating nations ever in the tournament.

HBO offers an unparalleled behind-the-scenes glimpse into the USMNT’s World Cup preparations, starting from their 2022 tournament appearance in Qatar where they advanced to the round of 16. The series will follow the team as they welcome new manager Mauricio Pochettino and ready themselves for the 2026 tournament, since as a host nation, the US doesn’t need to qualify.

HBO Sports is experienced in creating documentary series that delve into the lives of sports teams and athletes over extended periods: Their NFL show, Hard Knocks, is an annual mainstay, while in its boxing days, HBO generated multiple 24/7 series, focusing on fighters in the run-up to a fight. Similarly, Park Stories has produced many short documentaries featuring athletes like Tyler Adams from the USMNT.
