As a seasoned gamer of comedy, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that Sebastian Maniscalco is gracing Hulu with his latest standup special. With a career that spans from sold-out shows at iconic venues like Madison Square Garden to Hollywood roles alongside legends like Robert De Niro, it’s safe to say Maniscalco knows how to deliver the laughs.
Sebastian Maniscalco is headed to Hulu.
Manisculco’s upcoming standup show is set to premiere on Hulu as part of their new comedy initiative, “Hularious,” starting next month. The undated special aims to address the absurdities of contemporary life, covering topics like poor manners, inflated prices, and the confusion of social media. This performance will be captured during his successful “It Ain’t Right” tour.
He made a statement on Thursday saying, ‘Don’t you often find yourself thinking, ‘That’s Not Fair’?’ He’s creating this special as a means of bringing us together in laughter at the absurdity of our surroundings. I can’t wait to present it to my fans. So, grab your comfortable clothes, prepare some popcorn, and get ready to chuckle!
74th Emmy Awards producers, Done+Dusted, have confirmed that they will be returning to produce the special, with award-winning director Paul Dugdale (notable for Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour and Adele: One Night Only) at the helm. This announcement follows a string of successful tour dates by the comedian. Intriguingly, Jerrod Maniscalco has broken four records with five consecutive sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden. As a result, he now holds the record for “most consecutive performances by a comedian,” “most lifetime performances by a comedian,” “highest grosses by a comedian as part of one tour” and “most tickets sold by a comedian on a single tour” at MSG.
Maniscalco made history on both coasts, becoming the first comedian to headline the Intuit Dome in L.A. and setting a new attendance record at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia with 19,511 fans attending a single comedy show. Just like other top comics, he’s leveraged his comedic talent and impeccable timing into acting roles as well. He stars in the Chuck Lorre series ‘Bookie for Max’, which is gearing up for its second season, and he co-wrote and starred in ‘About My Father’, a Lionsgate film loosely based on his Italian family experiences, sharing the screen with Robert De Niro last year. In more recent times, he’s been seen in John Krasinski’s ‘IF’, Jerry Seinfeld’s ‘Unfrosted’, and ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’.
To attract top-tier comedians such as Maniscalco away from well-established competitors like Netflix and Hulu, the latter has emphasized the benefits of being part of the Disney portfolio, offering unique acting and writing prospects. The quality of its content is also a significant advantage. Unlike Netflix, which releases new specials on a weekly basis and is still seen as the dominant player in this field, Hulu follows a monthly release schedule. The comedic hour by Jim Gaffigan marked the beginning of the “Hularious” initiative in November, with further episodes featuring Bill Burr, Chris Distefano, Ilana Glazer, Jessica Kirson, Matteo Lane, Atsuko Okatsuka and Roy Wood Jr., set to air subsequently.
