Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Sequel Release Window Revealed by Studio Boss

As a lifelong cinephile with a particular fondness for the Planet of the Apes franchise, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing the news that another installment is on its way. The journey of Caesar and his kin has been nothing short of captivating, and the prospect of delving deeper into this world is tantalizing indeed.

It’s been confirmed that we’ll revisit the world of “Planet of the Apes” once more. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Asbell, head of 20th Century Studios, shared that another chapter in this enduring sci-fi series is underway, with a sequel to “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” expected to hit theaters in 2027. During his discussion on the studio’s most prominent franchises such as “Alien,” “Predator,” and “Avatar,” Asbell clarified their plans for both established IP projects and original films.

Currently, our focus is on determining the release schedule for next year’s half of our franchise films. Initially, we needed to establish the correct pace for Avatar, Planet of the Apes, Alien, and Predator series. We have successfully accomplished this task, ensuring the right timing for each film. Now that we have a clear understanding of when the Avatar movies will be released, when there will be another Predator, and an Apes movie in 2027, our aim is to plan these franchises effectively. This knowledge allows us to explore and decide on the types of original films, particularly in terms of genre, that we’d like to introduce to the marketplace.

As a devoted fan of the “Planet of the Apes” series, I can’t help but express my excitement over Asbell’s hint that another installment might be on its way in 2027. This prediction is based on the observation that the previous films had a three-year interval between “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and “War for the Planet of the Apes,” and a seven-year gap between the latter and this year’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

As far as director Wes Ball is concerned, the movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes serves as the first chapter in an upcoming trilogy. He expresses his excitement about the potential for compelling narratives ahead and hints at revealing a more expansive world as the storyline progresses.

“Our plan is clear; we aim to embark on a journey with plenty of scope for intense narratives. The final scenes of this movie hint at a vast, unexplored world that could potentially unfold in this very story, filled with tension, challenges, and all the elements you’d expect from a dramatic tale. Keeping our fingers crossed, let’s hope it turns out as promising as we imagine.

Under the guidance of director Wes Ball, penned by Josh Friedman, and featuring performances from Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy, the upcoming movie titled Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes unfolds events that transpire many years after Matt Reeves’ War for the Planet of the Apes. In this new chapter, an oppressive ape ruler is seen expanding his dominion.
