Jon Stewart Extends ‘Daily Show’ Run Through 2025

As a gamer who has been following the comedy scene for quite some time now, I must say that Jon Stewart‘s return to The Daily Show is like finding a rare, powerful artifact in my favorite MMORPG. It’s a welcome surprise and a significant boost to the game’s overall experience.

Jon Stewart isn’t quite ready to let go of his weekly Daily Show gig.

On Monday, it was announced that Jon Stewart has agreed to extend his contract, ensuring he’ll continue as a weekly host and full-time executive producer of The Daily Show, up until December 2025. This announcement comes about nine months after Stewart reached an agreement to rejoin the show he led from 1998 to 2015.

Originally, Stewart was scheduled to host The Daily Show once a week, typically on Mondays, until the presidential election. Given that Election Day is approaching and Stewart is planning a live, one-hour special for November 5th, the extension means he will continue hosting The Daily Show up until the first year of the next president’s term has passed.

Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and head of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, praised Jon for his keen mind and quick sense of humor, stating that he is a significant contributor to political and cultural discussions. He noted Jon’s talent for cutting through the clutter and providing clear, astute observations, which he believes is crucial in today’s environment. Excitedly, McCarthy announced that Jon will continue as the host of The Daily Show for another year.

Stewart expressed his delight in a statement, “I’ve had a fantastic time returning to work with the exceptional team at The Daily Show and Comedy Central. I had hoped they would let me appear every other Monday, but it looks like I’ll need to be patient instead.

Since Stewart’s comeback, the regular hosts of ‘The Daily Show’ – Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic – will keep on sharing hosting responsibilities every Tuesday through Thursday each week.

In September, The Daily Show clinched its second consecutive Emmy for the best talk series, and since Jon Stewart’s return in February, viewership has significantly increased. Over the past three quarters, the show has consistently attracted over a million viewers (taking into account a week of delayed viewing via Nielsen but excluding streaming), nearly doubling the total from when guest hosts were on air during the last few months of 2023.

Jen Flanz serves as the head producer for The Daily Show, while also working alongside Stewart and James “Baby Doll” Dixon in their executive producing roles.
