As a die-hard fan who’s been following the Jumanji franchise since its inception, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that we’re finally getting a fourth installment in 2026! It feels like an eternity since the last film, but patience is a virtue, as they say.

Fans of the franchise can rejoice as they’ve received positive news: The fourth film in the action-comedy saga, spearheaded by the revival, is set to hit theaters in 2026. After successfully rebooting the franchise in 2017, which was over two decades since Robin Williams’ original became a classic, the swift release of Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019 hinted at a quick follow-up. However, due to a pandemic, strikes, and the busy schedule of its main actor, there will be a seven-year gap between releases.

According to Deadline, Sony has officially scheduled December 11, 2026, as the premiere date for the fourth movie in the series. This upcoming film will mark the third collaboration between Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black as their in-game personas representing four teens who continually find themselves transported into a magical game. Fans of the franchise have been anxiously waiting, but now they can look forward to seeing the movie in theaters more than two years from now.

Jumanji initially appeared destined to be a solitary film following the failure of plans for a sequel involving Robin Williams before his untimely demise. However, despite fan concerns about the franchise’s reboot, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle emerged as an impressive sequel by flipping the narrative and having four teens enter the world of Jumanji instead of our world invading it. With two successful movies that exceeded expectations in continuing the story, a fourth installment was inevitable, though it may have taken time.

Jumanji’s Cast Have Been Waiting For a New Adventure

Just as with any film series boasting an A-list ensemble, coordinating their schedules for a fresh sequel can be quite challenging. This is why it’s taken five years to finally announce the release date of the upcoming installment of the adventure franchise, despite the cast’s evident eagerness to reprise their roles and complete the game they initiated in 2017.

A year ago, Kevin Hart posted an amusing update about the advancements in the upcoming sequel. Although it wasn’t apparent that a new film was about to drop soon, he did confirm that plans were underway to reunite the cast for another installment. He stated back then:

It appears that we’ll need to act on this matter rather swiftly. Yesterday afternoon, I spoke with Dwayne Johnson, and as of now, we’ve set things in motion regarding some significant concepts.

On numerous instances, Karen Gillan has shown enthusiasm about reprising her role in future Jumanji films. This year, she discussed her affection for the series and her eagerness to continue being involved, stating that she would jump at the chance to be a part of another movie. She articulated:

I’m absolutely keen on carrying on with the Jumanji films. They’re a blast and I adore that character too. There’s something about them that resonates with me – it’s like I see myself in them, a nerdy teenage girl who finds herself in action-packed situations. So, it feels like these movies are a spot-on depiction of me, and I truly enjoyed the experience.
