As a longtime fan of NCIS, I must say that the latest tribute to Dr. Donald Mallard (David McCallum) truly warmed my heart. The show has always been special to me, but seeing the character’s legacy live on through “Ducky’s” is a testament to the impact he had on the series and its fans.
On September 25, 2023, David McCallum passed away at the age of 90. While he was once primarily recognized for his role as Ilya Kuryakin in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., over the past two decades, he gained a substantial fanbase through his portrayal of Donald “Ducky” Mallard on NCIS. This year, the show’s Season 21 episode “The Stories We Leave Behind” paid homage to both the real-life individual and the character, even featuring a brief appearance by Michael Weatherly as Tony DiNozzo. Now, in a heartfelt gesture to keep Ducky’s memory alive, the upcoming episode of NCIS airing on the 2024 TV schedule has bestowed a special tribute upon the late character.

More NCIS Stories
In the latest episode of NCIS, they reintroduced a character who used to be close to Vance, and I’m happy to say that we can expect to see more of her in upcoming episodes.
According to Katrina Law, here’s the explanation behind Jessica Knight’s significant choice at the end of the NCIS season 22 premiere:
Throughout this period, the primary figures were pondering over how to repurpose the office that Ducky used when he served as NCIS Historian. Torres envisioned it becoming a gym (as he’s been exercising more in anticipation of trying dating again), and at first, Kasie Hines advocated for preserving the office in honor of Ducky. However, she later disclosed that she often uses the office for meditation, prompting her to initiate a petition to transform it into an official meditation space. Alden Parker showed interest in converting the office into a new dining area, and Jimmy Palmer, who had worked alongside Dr. Mallard for years, was amenable to these ideas as long as Ducky’s files remained in their original location.
Ultimately, Director Vance opted to grant everyone’s wishes by establishing the Dr. Donald Mallard Memorial Multi-Purpose Room, affectionately known as “Ducky’s.” This seems likely to become the preferred hangout spot when team members aren’t working in the bullpen, lab, or autopsy room. Nick can workout here, Kasie can find tranquility for meditation, Alden and others can grab a bite, and Jimmy can still access his mentor’s old files stored in Ducky’s filing cabinets. Although this office space has been present on NCIS for many years, it now holds greater significance as a tribute of sorts to one of the show’s longstanding series regulars.
In the latest twist, it’s me who missed the grand reveal of Ducky’s return, as Timothy McGee was engrossed in his investigation of the new NCIS assistant director, Gabriel LaRoche – a role McGee had been eagerly pursuing since the commencement of Season 22. As Katrina Law shared with TopMob, this character has sent McGee’s intuition spinning, although there’s no definitive evidence suggesting he’s the next major antagonist. I have faith that McGee will uncover something eventually, but for now, it’s crucial to keep his probe out of Ducky’s tranquil space, where relaxation is the main agenda.
Every Monday at 9 PM Eastern Time, you can catch new episodes of NCIS on CBS, and later, with a Paramount+ subscription, you’ll be able to stream them. Following at 10 PM ET on the same night is NCIS: Origins. As for NCIS: Sydney Season 2 and the Paramount+-exclusive series NCIS: Tony & Ziva, their release dates are still undecided.
