As a lifestyle expert with a background in sports and event management, I must say that the Diljit Dosanjh concert at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was an electrifying spectacle, to say the least. However, my heart goes out to our local athletes who train in these facilities, only to find them in a state of disarray after such events.
The Dil-Luminati concert by Diljit Dosanjh brought Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium alive with energy and attracted 35,000 fans daily. But sadly, local athletes were disappointed to find the stadium dirty post the event and concerned about the state of the track.
Beant Singh, who once won a gold medal at an Asian youth competition, expressed his frustration on Instagram about the current state of the stadium following Diljit Dosanjh’s concert. He pointed out that instead of being used for athletes’ training, the facility had been turned into a party venue, leading to damaged equipment and a disorganized environment.
As a devoted follower, I too echo his sentiments about the current state of sports, sportspeople, and our stadiums here in India. It’s disheartening to see this situation.
It’s noted that although these facilities are used by young athletes for training, they are frequently shut down for extended periods due to events, which can lead to excessive drinking and partying. The consequences often include damaged training equipment being left behind, indicating a concerning lack of respect towards the needs of sports enthusiasts.
On X (previously known as Twitter), a post highlighted the unsatisfactory condition of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium after the Diljit Dosanjh concert, as it depicted athletes tidying up litter from the long jump area.
Scattered around the track were empty alcohol bottles and spoiled food, with cars careening over them. These sights sparked a sobering contemplation about the challenges athletes encounter, leading one to ponder the allure of participating in sports within such a setting.
According to Sportstar, officials took immediate steps to ready the stadium, addressing athletes’ worries regarding its state, ahead of the forthcoming Indian Super League game.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) reached out to the concert organizers, insisting that the stadium should be restored to its original condition after the event, considering there were approximately 70,000 people in attendance over two days. Clean-up operations are scheduled to be finished by October 29th.
On October 28th, the cleaning crew attempted to tidy up using stiff-bristled brooms, which unfortunately caused harm to the delicate artificial surface of the track. Moreover, rickshaws carrying heavy goods were seen crossing the athletic track, adding to the damage due to wear and tear.
According to the information provided by the portal, a sportsman voiced worries regarding the effect of hefty weights on the running track, pointing out that these weights cause depressions which could result in an unleveled track surface.
2021 saw the track’s replacement, and I have concerns about holding competitions if it continues to show signs of damage. I’m optimistic that the clean-up initiatives will successfully erase any permanent scars on its surface.
2024’s Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour concert in Delhi left fans feeling a mix of thrill and disappointment. The event showcased an energetic performance by Dosanjh, who sang popular tracks such as Born To Shine, 5 Taara, Do You Know, and Ikk Kudi.
A lot of people absolutely loved the experience and described it as ‘the best night I’ve ever had.’ They appreciated the energetic ambiance. However, not all attendees felt the same way. Issues with venue management arose, as some fans expressed irritation over disorganized check-ins and check-outs, quick alcohol sales running out too fast, and difficulties in getting food during the event.
