As a seasoned film enthusiast with a knack for survival stories, I can hardly contain my excitement about Ansel Elgort‘s latest venture, “Faster Than Horses”. The combination of Elgort’s acting prowess, James Erskine’s directorial skills, and Bear Grylls’ real-life survival expertise promises a thrilling ride that will surely leave us on the edge of our seats.
Actor Ansel Elgort, known for his roles in “Baby Driver” and “Tokyo Vice,” has agreed to take on the lead role as a marathon runner who finds himself in a life-or-death struggle, in the survival thriller titled “Faster Than Horses“. This upcoming film is directed by James Erskine, who has previously worked on films like “Billie” and “The End of the Storm“, with survival expert Bear Grylls serving as producer.
A narrative derived from a real event as detailed by Hampton Sides, focuses on a previous Olympic athlete striving to regain former glories by competing in the grueling Marathon des Sables, an extended sequence of marathons across the vast Sahara Desert. As a catastrophic sandstorm strikes the race, he becomes disoriented and embarks upon a ten-day struggle for survival within the unforgiving Sahara.
Right now, “Faster Than Horses” is being prepared for production. Upgrade Productions plans to present this project to potential overseas investors during the upcoming American Film Market in Las Vegas next week. Meanwhile, CAA Media Finance has been assigned to represent the North American distribution rights.
Erskine collaborated with Michael Mul and Chris Mul on the screenplay for “Faster Than Horses“. Grylls is set to produce through his production company, The Natural Studios, along with Delbert Shoopman, Ben Grass, and Michael Pugliese from Running Tiger Films, as well as Stuart Sutherland of Celtic Arabia. Jonathan Kier and Matt Brodlie from Upgrade will act as executive producers in this project.
Ever since I first encountered this tale, it has held me spellbound, and I’m overjoyed to be part of its adaptation for the screen,” stated Erskine in a release. He described the venture as a “compelling narrative of hardship and rehabilitation, unfolding against some of the world’s most breathtaking natural backdrops.
For quite some time, I’ve been familiar with this tale, and I’m thrilled to be included in the group that’s making it real. According to Bear Grylls in a statement, Ansel’s depiction of a man battling insurmountable odds to survive, not just physically but also emotionally, will captivate viewers… The story is truly astonishing.
Ansel is managed by several agencies including Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Brookside Artist Management, Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman. Delbert Shoopman, Bear Grylls, and James are all handled by CAA alongside another agency. James is also represented by Curtis Brown.
