As a seasoned gamer of reality TV competitions, I must say that The Voice Season 26 has been quite the rollercoaster ride so far. However, after witnessing Night 4 of the Battles, it seems like we might be seeing a shift in the game’s history books.
Spoiler alert! This story contains the result of one Night 4 Battle for The Voice episode that aired on October 29. Episodes are available to stream the next day with a Peacock subscription.
As The Voice Season 26 moves forward in the 2024 television lineup, we’re nearing the conclusion of the Battles. With teams shrinking, the top contenders are becoming more distinguishable from the rest. Although every coach on The Voice has several artists with potential to win, Reba McEntire might be the one to claim the trophy and make history. In fact, I believe she has a strong possibility of breaking a record currently held by Gwen Stefani, following Night 4 of Battle rounds.
Fans who have been following “The Voice” for some time may recall that Carter Rubin emerged victorious in Season 19, marking Gwen Stefani’s first and only win thus far. At the tender age of 15, Carter became the youngest male champion the competition has seen to date. Interestingly, Brynn Cartelli, a member of Kelly Clarkson’s team from Season 14, was the overall youngest winner at 15 years old. Now, Reba McEntire finds herself with a 13-year-old contestant named Jaukeem Fortson on her team this season, and he seems to have all the potential needed to claim the title.
13-year-old Jaukeem Fortson boasts an exceptional voice, one that rivals even those much older than him. On the October 29 show, he faced off against someone twice his age. While it’s important to note that his teammate Tsola is also quite young at 27, the pair delivered an outstanding performance of “Higher Love”. In the end, Reba McEntire chose Jaukeem for further advancement.
The teen continues to blow the other coaches away, too, as Michael Bublé hilariously marveled at the skill that Jaukeem Fortson already shows. He said:
Hey Jaukeem, I’m not sure if you ever watched those Will Smith sci-fi movies, but at one point, I imagined you might reveal your true age by saying something like, “Ha! I’m 40!” So, let me ask you this: What do you think you’ll be like, two weeks from now?
Men in Black alien or not, Snoop Dogg had a different comparison, illustrating the improvement he’s already seen in the young singer, saying:
Just as a Chia Pet sprouts with water, you’re currently undergoing growth that can be seen in real time.
It’s interesting to point out that during the Blind Auditions, both Michael Bublé and Snoop Dogg showed interest in Jaukeem Fortson, leaving me wondering why Gwen Stefani didn’t do the same. As soon as he began singing Adele’s “Easy on Me”, I couldn’t help but think we might be witnessing the potential Season 26 champion. Here’s a peek at his performance:
It’s no surprise that Reba McEntire considers this season as her favorite; after all, she certainly seems to be on track to secure her second consecutive victory, dethroning Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson in the process, who currently hold the record books. In fact, we refer to her as the queen for good reason.
Don’t miss out as we follow the storyline of Season 26! Will Jaukeem be able to endure the intense three-way Knockout rounds? Could another contestant rise to contend with Team Reba’s promising young talent? Tune in to The Voice, airing at 8 p.m. ET on Mondays and Tuesdays (with the exception of Election Day) on NBC.
