As a lifelong fan of the quirky and unconventional, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the news that Emily the Strange is getting her own feature film! Growing up, her unique style and amusing observations resonated deeply with me, making me feel less alone in my own weirdness.
Emily the Strange is getting the feature treatment from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that the studio is teaming up with producer Bad Robot to bring to life an illustrated character created 30 years ago by artist Rob Reger and the Cosmic Debot team. The extensive Emily the Strange universe, valued in millions, encompasses books, comic series, games, and a well-liked clothing line.
Screenwriter Pamela Ribon, renowned for her works like Nimona and the Academy Award-nominated short film My Year of Dicks, has been appointed to pen the script for an upcoming animated movie. Reger and Trevor Duke-Moretz are serving as executive producers on this project, which revolves around a character distinguished by her black, white, and red style and humorous insights.
Reger praised both our creative and executive teams involved in the movie, stating they are exceptional. Each member brings a unique viewpoint combined with an appreciation for Emily the Strange’s special bond with our reality.
