As a long-time admirer of Brian Eno‘s groundbreaking work, I am absolutely thrilled about his upcoming book collaboration with Bette A., “What Art Does”. With a career spanning five decades and a knack for coloring outside the lines, Eno never fails to surprise and inspire. This new book, delving into unconventional approaches to art and creativity, promises to be a thought-provoking journey through various mediums, from pop songs to shoe tassels.
British musician and creative mind Brian Eno, along with Dutch artist Bette A., have revealed the upcoming publication of an intriguing new book titled “What Art Does“. This collaborative work leverages unique perspectives derived from Eno’s half-century-long journey in the arts. In this groundbreaking artistic theory, they delve into the motivations behind creating art and its role in binding us together.
In today’s world where modern art is navigating through changing currents and a digital image landscape, a book arises amidst a creative predicament. Yet, Eno continues to color beyond established boundaries. This year, his generative documentary titled “Eno” was released, along with the publication of What Art Does by HARD ART, which delves into unconventional territories to explore “the purpose of fictional realms” in “pop songs, detective stories, soap operas, ornamental trimmings on shoes, and the concealed language within hairstyles.
The idea for the book stems from a series of conversations between the two artists after meeting through TRQSE, a network of socially-conscious artists and scientists founded by Bette. Expanding on their shared commitment to activism, all proceeds from the book will be donated to Earth Percent and The Heroines! Movement.
The book titled “What Art Does” will have a special run of 777 copies, each individually signed and accompanied by an exclusive slipcase hand-painted by the authors. These copies will retail at $225 USD. Starting December 3, 2024, these hardcover editions can be purchased on Metalabel (for North American collectors) or EnoShop (for International collectors). For a week following the release date, a black and white PDF version of the book will be available for just $1 USD.
