Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Presence’ Trailer Takes Ghost’s Point of View Chasing Lucy Liu and Family

As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours navigating eerie digital landscapes, I can confidently say that the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming film ‘Presence’ has piqued my interest to an unsettling degree. The idea of experiencing a haunted house narrative from the ghost’s perspective is not only intriguing but also promises to deliver a unique and immersive experience.

On Halloween, Neon unveiled a spine-tingling teaser for the upcoming horror movie titled Presence, directed by Steven Soderbergh.

The movie scheduled for release on January 24, 2025, centers around a family that shifts into a new residence, only to discover an eerie presence within their home. What adds to the suspense is that the film is filmed from the perspective of the ghost, allowing the camera to roam freely throughout the house as if viewers are trailing the family.

The main cast features Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Eddy Maday, Callina Liang, and Julia Fox. The production is overseen by Julie M. Anderson, Ken Meyers, and David Koepp, who has previously collaborated with Soderbergh on the film Kimi.

In his critique, David Rooney from The Hollywood Reporter commended the movie’s casting, stating it was “unbeatable” and extolling Liu’s performance as Rebekah. He noted that she skillfully demonstrated some harsh aspects but never crossed the line into monstrosity, making the marriage believable while still evoking sympathy when she experiences a devastating setback.

Rooney praised the horror film for its daring approach, stating, “This is a highly enjoyable watch for fans of haunted house movies, as it focuses more on building tension rather than providing jump scares and relies on practical effects instead of digital enhancements. The way Soderbergh utilizes visual storytelling to captivate the audience is truly remarkable.

Shortly after its debut at the Sundance Film Festival this year, Neon secured worldwide rights for distribution of the movie titled Presence.
