As a dedicated fan of Ghosts who has been following the series since its inception, I must say that this year’s Halloween episode was truly spine-tingling! The introduction of Mary Holland’s character, Patience, and her Puritan spirit, added an extra layer of chills to the already haunting atmosphere. The witch trial scene was a perfect blend of humor and suspense, making it a truly memorable episode.
Heads up! The following discussion may reveal spoilers for the third episode of ‘Ghosts’ Season 4. If you haven’t watched it yet, you can catch up by subscribing to Paramount+ and streaming the series.
At last, the spooky season has arrived on the 2024 TV schedule, and we’re thrilled because it means our favorite annual Halloween episode of Ghosts is here! Given Mary Holland’s Puritan character Patience, the holiday was filled with excitement, culminating in a witch trial. Yet, after experiencing her first modern Halloween, Patience chose to return to her roots, but not before leaving a thought-provoking quote that I can’t shake off.
Since Mary Holland has joined the cast of “Ghosts” for three episodes, I recently got a chance to conduct an interview with her, focusing on the Halloween special. Given this, it was only natural that I inquired about the surprising dialogue she delivered during the episode.
It was good to know you, now I must return to the others.
Just as spirits who apparently weren’t present at the time displayed shock, I too felt surprised. This event fueled a speculation in me regarding what might emerge from that soil in the future. Thus, let’s delve into the details.
What Mary Holland Told Me About Patience’s Final Line In The Halloween Episode
In my interview with Mary Holland of TopMob, I couldn’t help but inquire about Patience’s last statement. Given that her spirit yearned to go back to the earth due to the allure of modern distractions such as reality TV, it seems she might return alongside others as well. The actress shared with me her reaction upon learning this twist, expressing:
Upon witnessing that, I found myself thinking it was an intriguingly fun twist that [others like her might exist], since my assumption had always been that she’d been isolated and buried in dirt for all these centuries. However, it seems quite plausible if she’s present, then there may well be other spirits inhabiting the same space.
Given that Patience has lain buried for countless centuries and the earth surrounding her contains vast, uncharted areas, it’s reasonable to assume that other spirits could reside in those spaces. Holland shared her belief that these entities might be other Puritans or perhaps ghosts from a multitude of different eras. She elaborated on this concept, stating:
It struck me as fascinating to consider that there might be hidden dimensions to our reality we’ve yet to explore, possibly inhabited by spirits from various eras – perhaps even those from the Puritan era or other periods that have largely been forgotten in history on these grounds. I find this idea incredibly intriguing.
Holland further shared her uncertainty regarding the fate of her character and those she referred to. Yet, she expressed eagerness to discover more, hoping for revelations to unfold swiftly. And just like you, I can’t wait to uncover the intriguing possibilities this story holds, as well as the mysteries surrounding these spectral characters.
I Think This Opens The Door For The Introduction Of A Whole New Group Of Rival Ghosts
It’s clear we’re familiar with the ghostly inhabitants of the basement, we understand that Red Coats reside in the outbuilding, and there are numerous other spirits who occasionally manifest in Sam and Jay’s manor. Therefore, it’s not surprising to assume that there could be even more spectral entities lurking in the grounds.
It seems undeniable that Patience isn’t the sole entity dwelling below, and it’s as if those buried six feet deep might harbor grudges against the spirits inhabiting the world above. When Holland’s specter brought up “the others,” all the ghosts in the manor were taken aback with fear. Evidently, there’s someone or something down there that they wish to avoid, and I’m eager to uncover their identity.
It’s intriguing for me to imagine the ghosts confronting other spirits who harbor ill feelings towards them, similar to how Isaac had to grapple with his parting from Patience. I’d find it fascinating if Sas and Thor were to encounter ghostly obstacles stemming from their past in a similar manner.
Maybe, a whole gang of rival ghosts could emerge from the dirt at one time, that’d be fun!
It’s quite possible that this series could surprise us with more unusual events. We’ve already seen some extraordinary occurrences, and new spirits keep appearing unexpectedly. Therefore, I believe we should brace ourselves for the appearance of the “others” Patience mentioned, as it seems likely they’ll make an appearance in Ghosts as it carries on airing on CBS every Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
