As a gamer who has grown up with the captivating world of “Scandal”, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia and admiration for this incredible act of solidarity from my favorite TV family. Having been raised in North Carolina, I share a special bond with Bellamy Young and her heartfelt initiative to help those affected by Hurricane Helene.
Next month, the cast from “Scandal” will join up again with their show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, for a live reading of the script as a charity event. This special gathering aims to raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, which will be managed by United Way North Carolina.
The event is led by actress Bellamy Young, a native of Asheville, North Carolina. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she recalled, “There were those agonizing days when we couldn’t reach loved ones, not knowing if they were still alive.” Overwhelmed by her love for her home, she was determined to contribute something meaningful in the wake of this crisis.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be attending an extraordinary virtual event! It promises a star-studded lineup including Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Guillermo Diaz, Scott Foley, Katie Lowes, Joshua Malina, Joe Morton, George Newbern, Jeff Perry, Cornelius Smith Jr., and Darby Stanchfield. Shonda Rhimes will grace us with her presence to kick off the reading, while Betsy Beers will be our narrator. Keep an eye out for more special guests who will join us soon!
To my dear Scandal clan,” Young expressed. “We maintain a bustling Scandal WhatsApp group where conversations flow freely, and it turned out to be quite effortless when I posed the question there, with everyone swiftly agreeing.
Supporters have the opportunity to contribute funds to secure their attendance at the event located at www.unitedwaync.org/scandalread. Contributions serve as a confirmation of your RSVP for a virtual pre-event featuring the cast, including an opening by Rhimes. Moreover, one fortunate fan will additionally get a chance to team up with the cast and portray a character in the episode they’ll be reading (enter at www.prizeo.com/scandal to take part).
Young mentioned that she selected an episode where it feels like everything is stacked against us and victory seems impossible, yet we manage to support one another and find a way through together. She hasn’t revealed which episode yet, but the guest stars may provide additional clues.
Brittany Pruitt Fletcher, the head of United Way of North Carolina, expressed heartfelt thanks to the cast of Scandal for their kind contributions towards our efforts to rebuild Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene. This statement was made in an official announcement.
For Young, collaborating with United Way stirs up memories of her childhood. “They’ve always been a significant part of my heart and mind, especially in Asheville, where I grew up,” she expressed. “We’re thrilled about this project; it feels like coming full circle, like returning home.
The event where we read the script is happening on Sunday, November 17th, at 3 PM Pacific Time or 6 PM Eastern Time. You can secure a spot by donating at www.unitedwaync.org/scandalread.
