High Potential Hit A Rating Benchmark That Involves The Conners, And I'm As Happy As I Am Impressed

As a long-time fan who’s seen my fair share of TV comedies, I can confidently say that ABC’s High Potential is a breath of fresh air in the current landscape. With Kaitlin Olson from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia leading the charge alongside seasoned veterans like Judy Reyes and Daniel Sunjata, this dramedy has quickly become my new favorite.

For enthusiasts of television comedies, one of the more exciting new comedy series slated for 2024 is ABC’s High Potential, due to its stellar cast. This includes Kaitlin Olson, famous for her role in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as well as Judy Reyes from Scrubs and Daniel Sunjata from Rescue Me. The show, a blend of drama and comedy, has managed to steer clear of common police procedural clichés so far. Moreover, its strong viewership numbers have reached a notable milestone, placing it alongside shows like The Conners in terms of popularity.

To date, the first five episodes of High Potential have solidified it as ABC’s most successful new series in six years. This is largely due to its remarkable viewing totals after a seven-day delay, with an average of 10.42 million viewers tuning in each week to watch the insightful character of Morgan, portrayed brilliantly by Olson.

In the first week after airing, approximately 6.8 million viewers tuned in to watch the fifth episode titled “Croaked” directly on ABC. This figure climbed to around 10.49 million when factoring in those who streamed “High Potential” on Hulu or with a Disney+ subscription, as reported by Deadline’s Nielsen data.

Apart from a 2% rise being evident between Episode 4’s figures and the latest one, it’s also worth noting that the total represents a significant jump of 191% when contrasted with the Live + Same Day numbers for the same episode earlier. Given this surge in viewership, it won’t come as a shock if ABC decides to renew the show for a slot in their 2025 primetime lineup, possibly even before the ongoing 10-episode season concludes.

High Potential Is ABC’s Biggest New Show Since The Conners’ Debut Season

Originating from Drew Goddard and inspired by the French show HPI, “High Potential” has managed to attract a substantial audience, leading ABC executives to consider it as their most successful new series in the past six years since the debut of “The Conners” spinoff during the 2018-2019 television season. On average, it drew approximately 9.5 million viewers for its initial 11-episode run.

Regarding the series High Potential, it’s still developing and it’s unclear if it will maintain its leading position. However, achieving comparable ratings with The Conners is quite remarkable given that it’s a fresh addition to U.S. television. It’s worth noting that The Conners was preceded by the highly successful revival season of Roseanne, which concluded unexpectedly following the dismissal of its lead actress and her character’s demise. Thus, while The Conners‘ audience was already established, it was significantly reduced without Roseanne Barr involved.

Here’s how Olson celebrated the win on Instagram:

You guys are just the best. Thank you for watching. ♥️

Wouldn’t it be fantastic if Kaitlin Olson managed to make a guest appearance on The Conners when its final season premieres in early 2025? Given that the episodes have already been filmed, the likelihood is quite slim, but who knows? With the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia making an appearance on Abbott Elementary, it’s not entirely out of the question for Olson to pop up in Lanford. Or anywhere else, really.

I hope she continues gracing us with her presence on the show “High Potential” for many years to come. Remember to catch it every Tuesday night on ABC at 10:00 p.m., not only for the compelling storylines but also for those adorable baby reaction shots, a feature this series is known for.
