As a seasoned adventurer who’s faced more dragons than I can count, let me guide you through the draconic encounters that lie ahead in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
As a devoted fan, I can’t wait to engage with mythical creatures, particularly the formidable high dragons, in the captivating world of Dragon Age: The Veilguard!
In this piece, we’ll guide you on tracking down the awe-inspiring dragons that breathe life into the realm of Thedas in an extraordinarily difficult manner. Here’s your roadmap for encountering these towering beasts.
All High Dragons Locations and How to Defeat Them
You’ll run into High Dragons during some of the trickiest quests in Thedas.
In this game, unlike past titles where dragon encounters were standalone events, many dragon battles are integrated with the storyline’s quests.
Although not every dragon contributes directly to accomplishments such as ‘Bringing Down the Sky’, slaying all dragons demonstrates your unquestionable prowess as a true Dragon Master.
As a seasoned gamer, here’s my lowdown on the eight mighty High Dragons: I’ve mapped out their locations, so you know exactly where to hunt ’em, and I’ve got some tips on how to take ’em down.
1. Corius the Icetalon
The choices you make early in the campaign might lead you to Corius the Icetalon.
If you opt to safeguard Treviso during the quest titled “On Deadly Wings,” this event will transpire, following the narrative mission “A Warden’s Best Friend.
Corius uses devastating ice bombs and frigid breath to freeze and slow your party.
To fend off these assaults effectively, arm your squad with fire-oriented weapons and incantations, taking advantage of its vulnerability towards fire.
Keep on the move to evade ice bombs that can easily engulf a target that’s standing still.
Use Lucanis’ abilities to deal high damage while shielding your party from freezing effects.
Regardless of your efforts, this conflict doesn’t conclude here. Corius will withdraw, but prepare for another encounter with him in Fire and Ice, a place where the risks are significantly greater.
2. Seartooth Vyrantis
In the game “On Blighted Wings“, Seartooth Vyrantis emerges as a flaming alter ego of Corius when you choose to safeguard Minrathous.
To emerge victorious in this encounter, it’s advisable to employ cool-based skills and weaponry.
Trust Neve as your partner in this battle, as she will be a crucial source of support with her powerful ice spells serving as a shield against Seartooth’s fiery attacks.
Maintain a distance sufficient to avoid its scorching exhale, and move closer when the dragon takes a break. Just like Corius, Seartooth retreats before the battle concludes.
In Fire and Ice, this scenario prepares us for a grand confrontation between the two formidable dragons who prove to be an even greater test.
3. Fangscorcher
Fangscorcher is the first dragon you’ll hunt for Taash in Slaying the Fangscorcher.
On this journey, you’ll venture into the dark, hidden recesses of Arlathan Forest. The dragon you encounter here is not like Seartooth; it’s fiercer and boasts thicker armor.
Aim for hitting it sideways to make it lose balance, and once it’s not paying attention, go for attacks on its underside.
Neve’s ice magic will be necessary again, so get her ready to counter the dragon’s fire attacks.
Keep moving to dodge its sweeping strikes and be ready to evade when it lunges at you.
4. Kataranda the Stormrider
Kataranda the Stormrider can be found on Dragon Beach along the Rivaini Coast.
During the “Kataranda the Stormchaser” quest, found within Taash’s side story, you’ll find yourself on a potentially perilous shoreline. The reason being, a nearby dragon has charged the surrounding waters with electricity.
Try to remain on solid ground whenever you can, because wading into an electrically charged body of water could lead to serious harm.
On the battlefield, the dragon unleashes bolts of lightning with its breath and swift claw attacks. To survive, it’s crucial to move nimbly and plan your assault wisely.
Choose companions with spirit damage skills or strong resistance to electricity.
Wait for gaps during its lightning flashes, then move cautiously away from the water to improve your chances of success.
5. Kaltenzahn
As a seasoned adventurer who has explored countless realms and faced countless foes, I can confidently say that the dragon residing in Sharksmouth Caves is undoubtedly the final and most formidable adversary in Taash’s series. I had the pleasure of encountering this beast during the epic quest known as the “Lair of the Dragon King.” The journey to reach the caves was treacherous, but the prize at the end – facing the dragon itself – was worth every risk. I can still recall the fear that gripped me as I entered its lair and the adrenaline that surged through my veins when our paths crossed. It’s an experience I’ll never forget, one that solidified my place among the legends of this world.
In a thick, frosty mist, Kaltenzahn disorients you by obscuring visibility, and strikes with chilling gusts of wind capable of disrupting your squad’s coordination.
Choose magic that involves fire and equipment that boosts your resistance to cold, since the unstable ground and hot lava in the arena don’t allow much room for errors. Stay agile and be cautious with each step you take.
Take advantage of Kaltenzahn’s pauses to launch fiery counterattacks. Arrange your team members strategically to reduce the effect of its widespread icy blasts.
6. The Formless One
Upon wrapping up Emmrich’s companion journey, I found myself face to face with a formidable dragon within the hallowed chambers of the Necropolis, as I embarked on my new adventure, “Pinnacle of Its Kind.
The Formless One was sealed away but is back at full power, and to unlock this battle, you need to take down three demons tied to its origins.
This is a Lightning Dragon that can summon skeletons and create fields of electrified energy.
You’ll need Emmrich or Lucanis to deal Necrotic damage, which is especially effective.
In gaming terms, I need to quickly dispatch summoned foes to avoid being overwhelmed, and use my magic to shatter their energy barriers.
Avoid the lightning bolts while managing the skeletons if you want to make it.
7. Mythal’s Retribution
Once you’ve wrapped up the “Regrets of the Dread Wolf” storyline, players will encounter a fight featuring Mythal’s draconic form at the Crossroads.
The character, Mythal’s Retribution, links to Solas’s hidden truths and the recollections of the Dread Wolf. This electrified dragon scatters explosive charges laced with lightning throughout the battlefield.
Use gear that enhances your resilience against spiritual and electrical assaults to ensure your survival. Constantly keep moving to avoid getting caught in explosives, as they detonate following a brief time lag.
To ensure success, maintain a safe distance from the dragon and strike only when it reveals a vulnerable area, and if an opportunity presents itself.
Instead of calling upon reinforcements like The Formless One, Mythal relies on powerful, unpredictable maneuvers that challenge your agility and endurance.
8. Revenant Dragon
The Revenant Dragon is arguably the most difficult dragon to defeat in The Veilguard.
This level 50 monster is the final challenge of the Heart of Corruption quest on Beacon Island.
Unlocking this fight involves collecting essences from defeated Champions and Revenants across Thedas.
This dragon throws Fire, Ice, and Lightning at you, so you need to keep adapting.
Wear equipment offering balanced resistance against various elements, and always stay adaptable by adjusting your strategy based on the enemy’s shifting attack patterns.
Necrotic damage is also your best bet, and you’ll want to bring companions like Emmrich to exploit its vulnerabilities while staying alert to its changing attack patterns.
Evade its basic assaults and seize opportunities for powerful counterattacks. This battle is among the most challenging in the game, so stock up on healing items and use them strategically to withstand this ultimate dragon encounter.
