Keanu Reeves Gets Real About Puking While Performing John Wick Stunts (But At Least There's One Positive)

As a seasoned gamer and action movie enthusiast with a soft spot for the John Wick franchise, I can wholeheartedly affirm that these films have redefined the action genre for me. The fight sequences are so meticulously choreographed that they’ve left me breathless, time and again. Keanu Reeves‘ dedication to his craft is truly inspiring, even if it means he has to occasionally empty his lunch into a bucket – a small price to pay for cinematic greatness in my book!

The John Wick film series is widely considered to be among the top action movies of today’s era. The fight scenes are skillfully choreographed and stand out as some of the best action ever displayed on screen. Keanu Reeves undergoes rigorous training to execute these sequences, a process that has reportedly made him sick at times, but he seems unfazed by it all.

It’s astonishing to think that the first “John Wick” film is already 10 years old! This past weekend, special screenings celebrating its 10-year anniversary took place, such as one at AMC Century City in Los Angeles where Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, director Chad Stahelski, and producer Erica Lee gathered for a discussion (as reported by People). When asked about the intensity of playing John Wick, Reeves shared that he was pushed to his limits so severely that he vomited on more than one occasion. However, he views this challenge positively, as it allowed him to work with such talented individuals. In essence, Reeves stated…

I was fortunate to have numerous exceptional mentors, collaborated with countless gifted performers (actors, actresses, stunt artists), and the experience was more akin to a choreographed dance, involving harmony and teamwork. Occasionally, there were moments when things got tough, such as feeling nauseous or vomiting, but those challenges added authenticity to the work!

Keanu Reeves prefers to see stunt-related vomiting as a blessing, rather than an unpleasant experience. He attributes this to the opportunity it gives him to work alongside extremely skilled professionals. According to him, enduring a few instances of sickness is a minor sacrifice for such privileged collaboration.

Whenever a new “John Wick” film starts production, we frequently see behind-the-scenes clips of Keanu Reeves preparing for the intense action scenes. Although they might be very challenging and potentially make him feel sick, the videos always omit any instances where he may have vomited during the process.

Still, it’s maybe not too surprising that, especially during the prep for the first John Wick, Keanu Reeves got pushed harder than he’d ever been before. While making a sequel, the actor knows what he’s going for, but he probably had no clue what he was going to have to put his body through for the original John Wick. Keanu Reeves had made some great movies before, but nothing quite like John Wick.

Reeves finds it completely worthwhile. Even if he has occasional bouts of nausea, it’s a minor inconvenience compared to the spectacular action scenes he helps generate on screen, with the team that assists him. As an ardent admirer of the John Wick films, I wholeheartedly concur.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t contain my excitement! Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his iconic role as John Wick in the upcoming spinoff film, Ballerina. However, it remains uncertain whether he’ll be plunged back into such turmoil for another John Wick movie in the future.
