World War III Almost Started On NCIS’ Latest Episode, But I’m Thankful Jessica And Jimmy Found Closure With Each Other In The Midst Of It

As a long-time fan of NCIS, I must say that the latest episode, “Sticks & Stones,” was a rollercoaster ride of emotions! The possibility of World War III breaking out kept me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn’t help but wonder if our beloved team would manage to prevent global catastrophe.

Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS episode “Sticks & Stones” are ahead!

In fiction, World War III is often a topic of interest, and the hit series “NCIS” recently hinted at the potential outbreak of such a devastating global conflict in an upcoming episode scheduled for 2024. The episode titled “Sticks & Stones” featured a shocking intelligence find and a chain of unfortunate events that nearly led to the U.S. launching an attack, which could have sent shockwaves across the globe.

Rest assured, World War III didn’t erupt within the NCIS-verse during this Season 22 episode, although it came dangerously close. In the heat of the storyline, characters Katrina Law’s Jessica Knight and Brian Dietzen’s character were fortunate enough to reach a resolution in their relationship after the breakup from Season 21 finale. Jessica, having taken on the role as Camp Pendleton’s chief REACT instructor, was able to find some closure with her former partner.

How World War III Almost Broke Out

The story in “Sticks & Stones” began when Alden Parker received a critical call during the night, causing him to gather his entire team for immediate action. The NCIS Naples unit had intercepted an encoded message originating from Belarus, revealing that they were planning a surprise assault involving mobile ballistic missile launchers across various European targets. This operation was orchestrated indirectly by Russia, who was utilizing Belarus as a pawn. The detection of this transmission was made possible by an algorithm designed by someone at the NCIS DC office. However, shortly after locating these missile launchers, another encrypted message arrived.

Yet, events took a turn for the worse as NORAD lost contact with Air Force One, carrying both the Speaker of the House and the President of the United States. The problem stemmed from their communication systems failing. To add to the chaos, the Vice President was reportedly undergoing an emergency colonoscopy, leaving him unable to act. Moreover, in a surprising move, the CIA suggested withholding information about the attack from Belarus’ ambassador to maintain the element of surprise.

As a gamer, I’d find myself in a tight spot when the President Pro Tempore, Senator Judd Larmont, suggested using tactical nukes based on his misconception of an NCIS office location and lack of strategic knowledge. Luckily for us all, Parker and McGee stood their ground, choosing to delay action until Kasie could decrypt the second transmission and possibly find a solution that avoided World War III.

As a die-hard NCIS enthusiast, I recently stumbled upon an amusing tidbit – one of the recurring actors on the show requested to be written off after landing a major role in a sitcom! Can you imagine the chuckles that must have ensued behind the scenes now?

After the heartfelt tribute episode for Ducky (David McCallum) in NCIS season 22, we can expect his character to be further honored in a fitting manner.

Later on, FBI agents under the command of Wayne Sweeney, once Parker’s superior, arrived to detain Parker and McGee, and secure the NCIS headquarters. Luckily, the primary NCIS characters, together with Technical Operator Curtis Hubley, managed to thwart Sweeney’s takeover attempts. This included Curtis preventing the FBI from accessing an algorithm he developed, Nick Torres setting up a means of communication for everyone using a dating app called MateQuest once cell phone communications were disrupted, and Parker and McGee inadvertently causing a power outage throughout the building rather than just MTAC.

After tracking down Parker, McGee, and Torres, Sweeney’s team persuaded him to grant Kasie additional time to decipher the second message. It turned out to be a relief as it revealed that Ukrainian special forces had already neutralized the launchers. Later on, Director Vance informed both Parker and Sweeney that the incident involving Air Force One wasn’t linked to Belarus, but rather a leftover harmful code from the NCIS franchise’s 1000th episode. The Vice President was just dealing with food poisoning at the time.

Essentially, much of the turmoil in “Stick & Stones” was due to misinterpretations and unlucky circumstances, yet wisdom ultimately triumphed. In the end, Vance proposed that Parker and Sweeney receive the prestigious Distinguished Medal of Public Service.

Jessica And Jimmy Made Peace With Their Breakup

During the onset of World War III, Jimmy Palmer was assigned to locate Jessica Knight who was out camping for a brief period. Unfortunately, Jimmy’s truck suffered from two flat tires en route to inform her about the situation, causing him to hitch a ride back with Jessica in her RV. The atmosphere between them was tense. Although they have appeared together since Jessica rejoined the team in Season 22’s premiere, there has been no one-on-one conversation between them since she returned to DC, nor any discussion about their romantic past.

Following the news that the NCIS building was secured by the FBI, Jessica and Jimmy paused to wait and offer assistance by scrutinizing security footage sent by Kasie. During this time, they decided to discuss a difficult topic, just as showrunner Steven D. Binder had hinted. They both acknowledged their lingering love for each other, but Jessica posed the question, “Isn’t it nice if that were enough?” Jimmy felt that she needed a partner who would pursue global job ventures with her, and she expressed that he required someone to provide him with the stability he lacked. Although I am not completely sure if they will reunite in the future, I am pleased to see them reaching a peaceful resolution about their relationship ending, allowing them to move forward as friends.
