As a seasoned gamer and long-time Grey’s Anatomy enthusiast who’s seen more surgeries than I care to remember (and that’s saying something!), I must admit that discovering the FX show, Grotesquerie, has been an absolute delight for my horror-loving heart.

Currently, Grey’s Anatomy is smack dab in the middle of its impressive 21st season on ABC, and can be streamed with a Hulu subscription. As a dedicated fan, I’m determined to stick with the medical drama till the very end… even though it may not hold the same charm as when Grey’s Anatomy used to feature memorable musical episodes. For Halloween, I wanted to explore how to watch Niecy Nash’s series, Grotesquerie, and as a lover of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, I was immediately captivated. Here’s why.

Although some people are still trying to decide if they want to watch the show “Grotesquerie,” I was completely captivated by it, mainly because it shares a strong connection with my preferred medical drama. Notably, two actors from “Grey’s Anatomy” appear as cops on the FX series: Brooke Smith and Tessa Ferrer. Intriguingly, these two “Grey’s Anatomy” surgeons are featured in “Grotesquerie,” and even shared many scenes together. If only Meredith’s voiceover were included!

Die-hard fans of “Grey’s Anatomy” might recall Brooke Smith portrayed cardio specialist Erica Hahn, a character introduced in Season 2. She was Callie’s initial same-sex romantic interest, but her departure from the show was rather abrupt. I’ve never been satisfied with how Hahn’s storyline concluded, so I was thrilled to see the actress from “Silence of the Lambs” return to my screen.

Tessa Ferrer portrayed Leah Murphy in 46 episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy,” and her appearance with Erica Hahn on “Grotesquerie” was a truly cross-universe experience for me. The character of Murphy seemed to disappear from the series without any clear reason, having returned to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. This seems like the casting of the FX show was intentionally designed to give closure and satisfaction to fans who felt let down by “Grey’s Anatomy.

It’s clear that the themes and genres of Grey’s Anatomy and Grotesquerie are distinct; one being a medical drama and procedural, while the latter is a horror mystery. Yet, I found the fusion of these two intriguing since I am a fan of both suspenseful films and the long-running ABC series, Grey’s Anatomy.

Additionally, both “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Grotesquerie” may provoke discomfort among viewers due to their graphic content. While “Grey’s Anatomy” has shown a wide range of injuries and surgeries that might make those with a fear of blood uncomfortable, “Grotesquerie” features crime scenes where Niecy Nash’s character, Lois Tryon, encounters gruesome and surgically disturbing crime scenes. The killer in this series even performs post-mortem surgery on his victims, arranging them in unsettling tableaus – a similarity that suggests the murderer could easily be a surgeon from Seattle given the required skillset.

Right now, you can stream fresh episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” and the full season of “Grotesquerie” on Hulu. Don’t forget to glance over the TV premiere schedule to help you decide what to watch next during your upcoming binge-watching session!
