As someone who has followed celebrity news for years, I’ve seen my fair share of messy divorces, but this one between Artem Chigvintsev and Nikki Garcia is certainly taking the cake. The allegations on both sides are serious, and it’s heartbreaking to see a couple who were once so in love going through such a public and contentious split, especially with their young son, Matteo, caught in the middle.
In terms of celebrity divorces, they can range from swift resolutions to prolonged legal battles. Regardless of how long it might take for ex-partners Artem Chigvintsev (from Dancing with the Stars) and Nikki Garcia (better known as Nikki Bella), the split seems destined to be tumultuous, given that he was arrested on charges of domestic violence in August. The most recent court filings seem to back up this theory, as Chigvintsev claims he wasn’t violent towards Garcia and instead alleges that she is the abuser.
Artem Chigvintsev was taken into custody on August 29 after an argument with Nikki Garcia, who he had been in a romantic relationship since they partnered on DWTS back in 2017. Two weeks following the dispute, she initiated divorce proceedings. However, on September 24, the District Attorney of Napa County opted not to press charges against Chigvintsev. With a court date set for December 6 concerning their divorce proceedings, he has maintained that he was not the instigator in their relationship, as stated in documents filed with the court on October 31 and subsequently obtained by the Daily Mail.
She’s known for having a short temper. I usually keep my cool and steer clear of it. On August 29, 24th, she was shouting, chasing after me, and the one who physically assaulted me. It is also false that I was becoming more and more agitated, snapping at her and shouting. I did not harm her or aggressively grab or shout at her.
Initially, Nikki Garcia stated in her initial filing back in August that her husband had forcefully grappled with her and held her down during a dispute. Records show Artem Chigvintsev made a call for medical assistance concerning an injured individual at their residence, although he attempted to withdraw the request. The authorities were still called to the scene due to this, leading to their arrival, as there was apparently a victim with noticeable injuries present, which eventually resulted in an arrest.
The court records additionally contain pictures showing Artem Chigvintsev with bruises and scrapes on his elbow, hands, and near his ear, which he claims were caused by Nikki Garcia according to the records.
I was the one who was mistreated, not the reverse. She tossed shoes at me, chased me and made attempts to forcefully enter the bedroom.
Both sides have asked for temporary orders to prevent any actions against each other until their court hearing. Nikki Garcia’s request for sole custody of their son Matteo was denied, and they will share equal rights instead. The issue of custody and spousal support will likely be significant in their divorce agreement, as Artem Chigvintsev also requested aid with his own divorce paperwork filed on October 31. In these documents, the dancer stated his views on the matter.
It appears that I can no longer rely on her, given that she deceived the police to protect her own career at my expense, and furthermore, she exploited court proceedings to restrict my access to our son for nearly a month, preventing me from seeing him until October 15, 2024. The Court’s 50/50 orders were a relief, but the ensuing month without Matteo was incredibly difficult for both of us and I consider her actions as selfish.
Regrettably, the accusations of misconduct on both parties have created a complex and unsightly predicament, particularly given the child’s involvement. It’s my hope they can reach a resolution swiftly, one that facilitates their transition towards a more wholesome future.
