Christina Applegate Apologizes Over Online Foul-Mouthed Exchange with Trump Supporters

As a lifelong follower of Christina Applegate, I must admit I was taken aback by her recent outburst following the election results. However, after giving it some thought and considering the context of her words, I find myself understanding her frustration.

Actress Christina Applegate, who won an Emmy, has recently apologized through platform X for her harsh words about the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Initially, she expressed her surprise and displeasure on social media at Donald Trump’s win over Kamala Harris, asking Trump supporters to stop following her right away. However, her fans strongly criticized her comments, causing Applegate to respond with aggressive remarks.

The election results have sparked strongly polarized responses, and it’s no surprise that Applegate isn’t the only well-known figure expressing anxiety about a second term for Trump in the White House. Similar to many other celebrities, Applegate expressed her feelings about the election outcome on social media by asking fans who voted against women’s rights or disability rights to unfollow her. In her post, she wrote, “If you voted against female rights, against disability rights, then please unfollow me.” She further added, “I don’t want followers like this, so yes, I’m done.

It appears that Applegate’s statement sparked backlash from some of her followers, causing her initial post to be inundated with negative feedback. The criticism often contained sexist language, with one comment saying, “‘The issue is women can’t think clearly one week out of the month and that’s not good for a president, and the American people are aware of this.’” Applegate responded to this prejudice with a quick, albeit vulgar response. However, after more offensive remarks, she decided to cease replies and instead posted an apology for her reaction.

I’m really struggling right now, but I want you to know that I’m no longer upset. I think I’ll retreat into my own space for a while and binge-watch lots of Bravo TV shows. It’s a great way to relax, so give it a try if you need some peace too. Take care!

Hollywood is Grieving Trump’s Victory

In contrast to a select group of celebrities who are jubilantly toasting Trump’s second term, such as Mel Gibson and Zachary Levi, many in Hollywood appear to be grieving deeply. Some, like Applegate, have announced their intention to delete their social media accounts, including Nancy Lee Grahn from General Hospital, who posted a poignant message before her departure: “I have done all I can do. I will be deleting all my social media in protection of my daughter. I’m so sorry. May God help us all.” Others, like Demi Moore, have expressed their displeasure publicly. During the promotion of her latest movie, a body horror film titled The Substance, she stated: “America is founded by Puritans, religious fanatics, and criminals,” adding that there’s a lot of fear in America concerning the body, with sexuality often considered taboo, which she has never understood or related to.

Although Applegate’s strong reaction to the presidential election results might seem excessive to some, the backlash she faced serves as a chilling demonstration of the deeply ingrained bigotry and sexism she aimed to reveal. Critics, instead of addressing her viewpoints, targeted her disability and gender, mirroring the experiences of numerous other Hollywood celebrities who have warned that Trump’s America could become a more hostile and oppressive environment for many people.
