The Buckingham Murders: Hansal Mehta apologises to X user who found Hindi dubbed version of Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘bad’

As a devoted follower of Hansal Mehta’s work, I must say that I was both excited and apprehensive when I heard about “The Buckingham Murders” premiering on Netflix. My excitement stemmed from the fact that it’s a mystery thriller with Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead role, and my apprehension came from the initial reports of poor dubbing.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t contain my excitement as Hansal Mehta’s gripping masterpiece, “The Buckingham Murders,” starring the brilliant Kareena Kapoor Khan, finally hit Netflix screens on November 8, 2024! However, amidst all the praise, a user on X (once known as Twitter) voiced concerns about the Hindi dubbing. In true grace and humility, our esteemed director, Hansal Mehta, responded with an apology, acknowledging the issue, and promised that the original language version would be made available on the platform shortly. Here’s to hoping for a seamless viewing experience!

Initially, the movie came out in two different forms: one was a Hinglish version (containing approximately 80% of its dialogues in English and 20% in Hindi), while the other was a fully-dubbed Hindi version. At present, Netflix India exclusively provides the dubbed Hindi version.

The user on X posted, “I began watching ‘#TheBukinghamMurders’, but the Hindi dubbing is terrible. I couldn’t make it past a few minutes. Is it true, @mehtahansal, that the movie was filmed in English? Why isn’t @NetflixIndia providing us with the original version instead of having the British characters speak in Hindi, which sounds unnatural?

Hansal Mehta stated, “Because of a technical issue, NetflixIndia will soon provide the original-language version of the show. I appreciate your understanding. It can indeed be frustrating to watch a dubbed movie, so my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

User @Sethumadhavan expressed their thoughts shortly after “The Buckingham Murders” was released on Netflix India, saying, “Hello @mehtahansal, why isn’t there a Hinglish version of #TheBuckinghamMurders available on NetflixIndia? Listening to the British actors speak in Hindi feels unnatural…… sigh!

User stated: “Could you provide the original version of the audio? I see options for Hindi, Portuguese, and Spanish. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this movie, so let’s make it happen quickly, Hansal!

As an overly enthusiastic admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement about this movie! In it, none other than the brilliant Kareena Kapoor Khan takes on the role of Jasmeet Bhamra, a dedicated British Indian detective. The story revolves around her investigating the heart-wrenching murder of an innocent 10-year-old child. I simply can’t wait to see how this gripping mystery unfolds!

Not only did this project see Kareena making her producer debut, working alongside Shobha and Ekta Kapoor, but it was also first shown to the world at the 67th BFI London Film Festival on October 14, 2023. Subsequently, the movie hit theaters on September 13, 2024.
