As a longtime fan of Ben Stiller’s work, seeing him return to the role of Hal L. in “Happy Gilmore 2” is nothing short of exhilarating! With a career spanning nearly four decades, Stiller has proven himself as an incredibly versatile actor, but there’s just something about that mean orderly from the original cult classic that brings a unique charm to his repertoire.
Ben Stiller has been confirmed as the star returning for the popular film sequel, “Happy Gilmore 2”. Photos published by DailyMail show Stiller on set, where he will once again play the character Hal L. The pictures, taken last Friday at Roosevelt Elementary School in Kearny, New Jersey, feature Stiller alongside his stunt double Greg Fitzpatrick.
The upcoming installment continues the storyline from the 1996 hit movie, in which Adam Sandler’s character, Happy Gilmore – a transformed hockey player – unexpectedly excels at golf and competes in a tournament to secure enough funds to save his grandmother’s house. Ben Stiller portrays Hal L., a harsh caretaker stationed at the nursing home where Happy Gilmore’s grandmother stays. Though reviews for the film were somewhat divided, audiences adored it, ultimately catapulting it into cult classic territory.
In addition to Eminem, Bad Bunny, Benny Safdie, Margaret Qualley, Nick Swardson, and Travis Kelce (who has been seen in Ryan Murphy’s latest production called Grotesquerie), we also have Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald reprising their roles for the sequel.
Happy Gilmore 2’s Familiar Faces
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that in the upcoming sequel, Happy Gilmore’s beloved characters, Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin, will once again grace our screens, with Julie Bowen reprising her role as Virginia, and Christopher McDonald stepping back into the shoes of Shooter. You might remember Virginia as my love interest in the original film, and it seems that in this new chapter, things are still going strong between us, according to what Julie recently shared with PEOPLE. The cast for this movie promises to be nothing short of spectacular!
Each workday, I find myself exclaiming internally, “Could that be…?” I can’t disclose the identity, but my reaction is akin to, “Amazing!” However, these individuals consistently show up for Adam because of his unique ability to make everyone feel included, and he possesses such warmth and charm.
The second installment of “Happy Gilmore,” directed by Kyle Newachek (previously working with Sandler on 2019’s “Murder Mystery”), is set to hit theaters in March 2025. Adam Sandler, who plays the main character, also co-wrote this sequel with Tim Herlihy and acts as a producer. Both Sandler and Herlihy were responsible for writing the original 1996 film.
Besides gearing up for Happy Gilmore 2, I’m excited to dive into two other upcoming ventures: Belly of the Beast, a project recently under my belt, co-starring Colin Farrell. This film revolves around an intriguing friendship between renowned writer and filmmaker Norman Mailer (my character) and convict Jack Henry Abbott (Farrell). Another project that I’m looking forward to is The Dink, a comedic take on pickleball. In this movie, Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, and Ed Harris will star, with me and Andy Roddick taking supporting roles. I’ll play a washed-up tennis pro who unwillingly takes up pickleball in an attempt to win my father’s approval. Additionally, I have several other projects in the pipeline where I’ll be both producer and director, such as the critically acclaimed Severance.
