Wes Bentley Reflects on Worst Part of Filming Yellowstone as Season 5 Finale Arrives

As a dedicated fan and follower of the Yellowstone universe for the past six years, I must say that the impending finale of this groundbreaking series leaves me with a mix of emotions. While I am excited to see how it all wraps up, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness knowing that we are saying goodbye to characters like Jamie Dutton, played by the talented Wes Bentley.

The last episodes are approaching, marking the end of a six-year journey across five seasons on Paramount+’s popular show. This transition means several cast members are saying goodbye to the characters they’ve brought to life. Among them is John, who plays Jamie Dutton in the series. Recently, the actor shared one aspect of filming he won’t miss – taking punishing blows during scenes.

The unprecedented triumph of “Yellowstone” stands out for Paramount, with the original series being merely a single branch in Taylor Sheridan’s rapidly growing collection of TV shows. Additionally, spin-offs like 1923, 1883, and an upcoming one titled The Madison are just part of his extensive workload. Beyond these, projects such as Landman, Tulsa King, and others keep him incredibly occupied. Remarkably, every series released thus far has become a massive hit, ensuring that there will always be another series in the pipeline, as long as this trend persists.

Regarding Yellowstone, whispers of a potential sixth series persist, yet it appears the show may have reached its conclusion. In an interview with Looper, Bentley shared his thoughts on both the aspects of filming he’ll cherish and those he won’t miss. He stated:

Playing Jamie has been a mixed bag, with some aspects I’ll look forward to leaving behind and others I’ll be sad to see go. I won’t relish the physical toll of portraying Jamie nor the distressing moments where my character is beaten up. However, I will miss those scenes as well, as they’ve provided unique opportunities to work with this talented cast and be part of this series. Overall, it’s been a remarkable journey, but since it’s television, there’s always uncertainty about when the end might come, or if the end comes too quickly.

Wes Bentley Says Yellowstone’s Finale Was Not Kept Secret…for Him at Least

Many shows often have their endings revealed prematurely, but it appears that filming for the finale of Yellowstone was exceptionally secretive, with some cast members unaware of the exact plot twists in the final episodes. However, according to Bentley, this may not be completely accurate; there were indeed some individuals who remained in the dark about certain aspects. He stated:

As a movie aficionado, it’s safe to say I was privy to all the secrets. [smiles] It seemed everyone else was in the loop too, yet I still feel a pang of guilt confessing this. The real challenge lay not with the crew, who were like family and had been there since day one. At times they knew absolutely nothing, which made it tricky because I didn’t want to keep them in the dark. Yet, we live in an era of internet leaks, so maintaining secrecy was crucial for me as a TV enthusiast who hates spoilers. However, knowing everything did make my job smoother.

The second half of Yellowstone Season 5, airing on Paramount Network on November 10, has fans on edge to see how the story will unfold without its main star, Kevin Costner. Although it’s unclear how the series will wrap up with his departure, one thing is certain – the end of Yellowstone might mark the conclusion of this particular series, but the Yellowstone franchise may continue.
