As a long-time Marvel fan who has seen the evolution of their cinematic universe from its humble beginnings, I can’t help but feel a sense of patience and anticipation when it comes to the Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali. The journey of this film has been a rollercoaster ride, with multiple director changes and delays that could make even the most stoic Marvel fan question their faith.
Among all the forthcoming Marvel films, there’s one that seems to have been brewing longer than the rest – the reboot of Blade, featuring Mahershala Ali. Announced in July 2019, this project has faced multiple setbacks for diverse reasons. As a dedicated fan, I’ve been yearning for news about the Daywalker’s next standalone adventure, and recently, producer Kevin Feige offered an update. While some might find his remarks somewhat vague, I must admit I’m grateful for the insights he shared.
What Did Kevin Feige Have To Say About The Blade Movie?
Over the weekend, the head of Marvel Studios (which is owned by Disney) attended their D23 Brazil expo. During this event, he showcased some of his company’s future projects and also had an interview with Brazilian media outlet Omelete. In this chat, he disclosed details about the release schedule for TV shows, movies, and other projects, including Miles Morales. When asked about the vampire superhero movie that has faced some challenges, the director remained positive, expressing his commitment to the film and its lead actor.
We are committed to Blade. We love the character, we love Mahershala’s take on him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. You’re all up to date on what’s happening. But I can tell you that the character will indeed make it to the MCU.
The journey of this Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to reach the big screen has taken a substantial amount of time. In 2019, it was announced and Bassam Tariq took on the director’s role around September 2021. However, a new director, Yann Demange, was appointed in November 2022 when Tariq had to step down due to scheduling conflicts. Unfortunately, Demange also left the project in June 2024, adding another hurdle to its production. Throughout this period, multiple writers including Stacy Osei-Kuffour from Watchmen and Eric Pearson from Black Widow have been involved.
Regarding the progress of the film, Kevin Feige remains optimistic. It’s understandable for one to think he’s just maintaining a positive front as an executive, keeping fan enthusiasm high. Nonetheless, I find his statement encouraging rather than disheartening.
Why Do I Appreciate This Latest Blade Update?

New Marvel Rumor Is Huge For Horror Fans And May Explain Why Blade Just Got Delayed Again
As a dedicated gamer (and Marvel fan), it’s no secret that Marvel Studios has always been great at keeping us in the loop about their upcoming projects. They really outdid themselves this past summer when they revealed that the title of the fifth Avengers movie had been changed to “Doomsday” and that Robert Downey Jr. would be back as Doctor Doom in the MCU. Updates might not come as fast as we’d like, but I have faith that Marvel will keep us posted if there are any significant changes regarding “Blade”. At the moment, it’s not scheduled for a Disney release, but who knows what surprises they have up their sleeves!
Beyond all doubt, Kevin Feige has demonstrated his passion for the project, and I’m confident he will make this movie a reality. While I might appear overly optimistic in this context, I choose to trust Feige, Mahershala Ali, and their team. After being involved for such an extended period, it’s clear they see the film’s potential. To put it simply, if they pull it off, Disney could be looking at a highly successful horror-action franchise with House of Mouse as its label.
As you anticipate updates about the upcoming movie, consider watching the initial Blade films featuring Wesley Snipes instead. Notably, he also reappears as the character in Deadpool & Wolverine, a production that will be available for streaming with a Disney+ subscription from November 12 onwards.
