As a cinema enthusiast with over three decades of movie-watching under my belt, I must say that the announcement of Riddick: Furya has filled me with unbridled excitement! The first Riddick film, Pitch Black, remains one of my favorite sci-fi horror movies, and the character’s evolution through the subsequent films has been nothing short of captivating.
Action movie star Vin Diesel has given fans a sneak peek of the eagerly anticipated sci-fi sequel, “Riddick 4,” titled “Riddick: Furya.” In this continuation, Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Richard B. Riddick from “Pitch Black.” Diesel shared an image from filming on Instagram, which shows him glaring intensely at the sky, hinting that some villains are about to receive their due retribution. You can see the latest glimpse of “Riddick: Furya” below.
For quite a while now, Diesel has been hinting at a fourth installment in the Riddick series, with Vin Diesel rejoining director David Twohy. Although details about the sequel are still scarce and reminiscent of the enigmatic protagonist, it’s been mentioned that Riddick 4 will delve deeper into the character’s backstory.
For quite some time now, our devoted legion fans have been yearning for it, and I’m thrilled to announce that the wait is finally over with the arrival of Riddick: Furya. Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of joining forces with Vin Diesel and One Race, producing three movies, two video games, an anime series, and internet-based motion comics. This upcoming big-screen adventure marks our return to Riddick’s homeland, offering a long-awaited opportunity to delve into the origins of this intriguing character.
Riddick 4 Will Explore the Mysterious Past of the Beloved Antihero
Introduced over two decades ago in the critically acclaimed sci-fi horror film “Pitch Black” (released in 2000), Riddick is one of Vin Diesel’s most cherished characters and franchises. The original story follows a crew whose spaceship crashes on a planet inhabited by creatures active only at night, and with a looming solar eclipse adding to the tension. The 2004 sequel, “The Chronicles of Riddick,” significantly broadens the backstory of both the character and the universe he inhabits, as Riddick fights against the Necromongers, an empire intent on destroying humanity.
Instead of its previous version, the sequel was generally panned by critics and underperformed at the box office. The last time we saw Riddick was in 2013’s “Riddick”, which learned from the errors of “The Chronicles of Riddick” and drew inspiration from “Pitch Black” to craft a smaller, more self-contained narrative. In this new installment, Riddick finds himself stranded on a harsh planet yet again, avoiding a ruthless gang of mercenaries who are determined to eliminate him.
Ever since then, Diesel has been hinting at a fourth installment. Once again, David Twohy, along with creators Jim and Ken Wheat, will write and direct Riddick: Furya. The sci-fi action sequel features Diesel as the main character and producer of the project. The official synopsis for Riddick: Furya has been revealed, and you can read it below:
“Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.”
