Harry Potter’s James And Oliver Phelps Share Fond Memories Of First Day On Set Of The Magical Films Ahead Of New Show: ‘You Almost Step Back Into That Feeling’

As a die-hard Harry Potter fan who has grown up alongside this magical universe, I can confidently say that the upcoming baking competition, Wizards of Baking, is a treat I never knew I needed! Having been enchanted by the Weasley twins’ antics since their debut in 2000, it’s nothing short of pure magic to see James and Oliver Phelps stepping back into their roles as hosts for this new venture.

In the realm of Harry Potter, every endeavor it embarks upon has been colossal, with the peak undoubtedly being the eight-part film series (our ranking of this YA classic). Currently, two alumni, James and Oliver Phelps, who portrayed the playful Weasley twins, are joining in on the latest venture. These brothers look back at their past experiences with nostalgia and are thrilled about hosting the upcoming Potter-themed baking competition, which is scheduled for our 2024 TV lineup.

The brothers recently chatted with Us Weekly regarding the upcoming “Harry Potter” cooking series, titled “Wizards of Baking,” airing November 14th on Food Network. During their discussion, they were queried about their recollections of portraying two iconic Weasley siblings and their experiences transitioning into an expanded segment of the franchise. James offered his insights on the matter.

In the year 2000, our initial day at Leavesden kicked off in the Great Hall where all the first-year students strolled in with wide-eyed awe. And when the bakers entered the Great Hall for the first time, they mirrored that exact reaction. It was quite an enjoyable experience.

It’s wonderful to discover that the scene evoked a sense of enchantment, not only for viewers but also for all those who were part of it. In fact, as Oliver, his brother, mentioned, stepping into this new competition was like taking a trip through time back to the magical Potter era.

In another sense, it seemed as if I had traveled back in time. The atmosphere was so reminiscent of the days we spent filming that I almost felt like I was there again. It’s incredible how deeply immersed we become in such environments.

It’s not surprising that they seemed transported back to the year 2000 when they saw the replicated sets and special guest appearances in the trailer for the new series. I can’t wait to watch the twins revisit their old characters, known for being cunning, mischievous, and full of fun. As for the show itself, we’ll have to judge how it stacks up against some top-notch baking competitions.

The magical realm of Harry Potter keeps growing, introducing a fresh baking contest organized by the Phelps brothers, as well as the eagerly awaited and currently under production 2026 TV series revisiting the epic 7-book tale. It appears that the renowned young adult series isn’t showing any signs of slowing down in the foreseeable future.

To immerse yourself in the magical world of Harry Potter, you can stream both the original series and Fantastic Beasts with a Max or Peacock subscription. Alternatively, if you want to watch Wizards of Baking and the Phelps Twins, you’ll need a cable or streaming package that includes Food Network. Here, you’ll have an opportunity to witness these magical talents as skilled bakers create their own masterpieces.
