A clip from San Diego Comic-Con shows her character Joy arriving at a hotel and unexpectedly finding an alien and The Doctor in her room. Recently, Moffat provided a new hint that sheds light on this confusing scene: the hotel setting and Joy’s arrival may have more significance than initially thought.
In a distant future, suppose a hotel chain discovered the secret of time travel. What would be the initial action they might take with such a discovery? Well, they would recognize that they now have a chance to market and sell every night in their hotels across history.
A tiny bit of background information makes the whole picture clearer. A hotel has mastered time travel and is utilizing empty rooms from the past to accommodate future clients. It’s quite intriguing, but we know that mishandling time travel often leads to disorder – maybe that’s why there’s a mysterious t-shirt leak hinting at an upcoming antagonist for Doctor Who.
Why Steven Moffat Ended Up Writing The Doctor Who Christmas Special
In this upcoming season of “Doctor Who,” Steven Moffat will make his comeback to the modern era, a development I’ve been enthusiastic about. I assumed he was inspired to write the Christmas special due to enjoying writing for Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor; however, that wasn’t the case. Instead, it appears Moffat decided to return not just because of his affection for the holiday, but also because Russell T. Davies asked him for assistance.
The truth is – I absolutely love doing Doctor Who Christmas because I’m a big fan of Christmas, I absolutely adore Christmas. Then the email came through saying, ‘Steven, I need to get onto series two, I’m never going to finish this Christmas script – could you come in and write one?’ Not complete his [Russell T Davies’s] script, just come in and do another one from scratch.
It’s worth noting that Moffat made it clear he didn’t build upon Davies’ script but started anew with his own tale, which I want to emphasize without implying disrespect since both have crafted some fantastic “Doctor Who” episodes. Despite receiving numerous Davies-inspired episodes this season, the brilliance of “Boom” has me yearning for more of that style in the upcoming Christmas special.
