EXCLUSIVE: Arjun Kapoor recalls buying Shah Rukh Khan’s Mohabbatein tickets in black outside theater; also says Salman Khan’s entry in Dabangg was ‘outstanding’

As a child of the nineties, my heart skips a beat every time I recall those golden days when we’d wait in queues for tickets to our favorite movies! Arjun Kapoor‘s anecdotes about buying black-market tickets for Shah Rukh Khan’s Mohabbatein and being awestruck by Salman Khan’s Dabangg entrance transport me back to those days of excitement, camaraderie, and the sweet smell of popcorn wafting from theaters.

Arjun Kapoor is basking in the triumph of his latest movie, Singham Again. The actor has captured hearts with his depiction of Danger Lanka in Rohit Shetty’s cop drama. In a unique interview with TopMob, Kapoor looked back fondly at past times, sharing recollections of purchasing tickets for Shah Rukh Khan’s Mohabbatein under the cover of darkness outside cinemas and reflecting on Salman Khan’s spectacular entrance in Dabangg.

Arjun Kapoor reminisced about an indelible memory connected to the debut of “Mohabbatein”. He said, “I can still recall when we couldn’t get tickets for ‘Mohabbatein’, so we ended up buying black market tickets. It was me and ten friends, and coincidentally, that happened during our Diwali break.

One memory that stands out for me is when the movie “Mohabbatein” premiered, and we found ourselves unable to purchase tickets at Chandan Cinema. Instead, we resorted to buying them on the black market. On that occasion, there were nine others with me, and it happened to be during the Diwali vacation period.

Arjun reminisced about how he and his friends took their last test on Thursday, and “Mohabbatein” premiered the next day. He shared that choosing their destination once the exams were over was quite significant back then, and seeing that movie became a memorable event for him.

Kapoor stressed that the movie, particularly Shah Rukh Khan’s debut scene, carried deep emotional significance for him.

He casually shared that he might have been in either the 8th or 9th school year when the event occurred, and since his attention was elsewhere, he couldn’t recall the precise details.

Yet, he nostalgically reminisced about the incident involving acquiring tickets, convincing his mom to lend him money for underground purchases, and eventually enjoying the movie, which he considered an unforgettable experience in his memory bank.

Kapoor praised Salman Khan’s impressive debut in Dabangg, particularly emphasizing the powerful delivery of the line, “Robin Hood Pandey, do you not greet us?” which left a lasting impression. He labeled the scene as exceptional.

Additionally, the actor from Singham Again also commended Aamir Khan’s work, emphasizing that the climax of Lagaan was exceptionally thrilling, making viewers feel as if they were in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium amidst the crowd, with their drumming creating a lively and charged atmosphere as they flocked to theaters.

Kapoor commented that witnessing the movie’s cricket match on a large screen was an indelible memory, suggesting to all film enthusiasts to check out “The Making of Lagaan” on Netflix, as he found it simply astonishing.

On the work front, Kapoor will be next seen in No Entry 2 with Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh.
