As a die-hard fan who has followed George R.R. Martin‘s epic tales since the days of paper maps and prophecies, I can barely contain my excitement over this tantalizing hint of a potential collaboration between Martin and Maisie Williams. I’ve journeyed through Westeros, Essos, and Sothoryos countless times, and the thought of exploring new territories created by these two brilliant minds is simply exhilarating!
George R.R. Martin is a very busy individual. He’s not just creating new Westeros tales for the 2025 TV lineup, such as “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” but also diligently working on the remaining books in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series (and I’m still keeping my fingers crossed they’ll arrive soon!). Lately, the well-known fantasy writer has given a tantalizing hint about a possible new collaboration with “Game of Thrones” actress Maisie Williams—and all I can express is, where can I enroll!?
On his well-known blog, aptly named “Not a Blog“, Martin recently posted about his summer journeys, mentioning a stop in London where he met up with the actress who portrays Arya Stark. While he’s been tight-lipped about specifics, the renowned author’s remarks have sparked curiosity among fans like myself regarding a potential collaboration between him and the actress from “New Mutants“, possibly on a spinoff of “Game of Thrones” or an entirely new project. As Martin himself put it:
As a fellow gaming enthusiast, I had the pleasure of hanging out with Maisie Williams over some piping hot pizza and pasta. We shared stories, laughed, and discussed exciting possibilities (fingers crossed!). It was an absolute blast!
Recently, Martin has been busy with numerous creative ventures, such as House of the Dragon (despite some reservations) and a stage production called The Iron Throne based on the Harrenhal tourney. These projects have once again brought his work to the forefront. Though it may suggest another Westeros project, there’s also the intriguing possibility that Martin and an ex-Game of Thrones cast member are brainstorming something entirely new. The idea of a new collaboration between this multi-talented actress and the imaginative world builder is quite enticing.
As a devoted fan, I’m keeping my hopes high for a possible Arya Stark spin-off series. Her character from Game of Thrones has been one of my favorites and the enigmatic westward journey she embarked on at the show’s end certainly deserves further exploration. Although HBO has traditionally been hesitant about delving into original characters beyond the prequel format, with the cancellation of the long-discussed Jon Snow spin-off earlier this year, a collaboration between the talented screenwriter from The Beauty and the Beast series and the performer from Gen: Lock might just be the spark needed to breathe life into Arya’s post-Thrones tale.
It’s worth mentioning that although George R.R. Martin is primarily recognized for his epic series, A Song of Ice and Fire, he has penned numerous other compelling novels that could potentially be transformed into engaging screen adaptations, particularly with Maisie Williams involved. For instance, Nightflyers, a science fiction novel exploring themes of isolation and mystery on a spaceship, would suit her acting prowess perfectly. Similarly, Fevre Dream, a gothic horror tale set on the Mississippi River, offers an excellent opportunity for Williams to breathe life into the gritty, suspenseful environment of steamboats and vampires. Lastly, Windhaven, a collaborative work with Lisa Tuttle, revolves around a young woman’s dream of flight in a world where only a select few can fly through the skies, providing another intriguing opportunity for Williams to showcase her acting talents.
At 28 years old, Williams excels at bringing adventurous and strong-willed characters to life, making him an excellent candidate for inhabiting one of the lesser-known yet equally captivating worlds within a Best Seller’s collection. I eagerly anticipate another adaptation from America’s version of Tolkien gracing either the big or small screen.
