As someone who has spent countless hours binge-watching TV shows, I must say that it’s quite disheartening to see characters come and go without proper closure. These characters, some of whom were intriguing, funny, or even heartwarming, seemed to vanish into thin air, leaving us fans scratching our heads and wondering what could have been.
There are numerous widely acclaimed television series out there, and many notable figures from these shows have garnered immense fan adoration. However, there are also several other characters who, despite being part of the same productions, have slipped into obscurity and are now hard to recall. Today, let’s delve into some of the most conspicuous examples.
Heath (The Walking Dead)
It would be a glaring oversight not to include Heath in this roster. Throughout all eleven seasons of “The Walking Dead”, I’ve noticed no character more overlooked than Heath. He appeared significant, yet following a single unfortunate zombie encounter, we haven’t seen him since and are left wondering if he’s still alive or not. A resolution eventually emerged, one where we learned Jadis had traded him to the Commonwealth, but that was many years later.
Mark Brendanawicz (Parks And Recreation)
Among the many gifted actors gracing the screen on “Parks and Recreation,” there’s one who initially joined the main cast in Season 1: Mark Brendanawicz. Initially, he was a romantic interest for both Leslie and Ann, but in an unexpected turn of events, he departed at the start of Season 2 after experiencing a personal revelation. Since then, he has not reappeared on the show.
Sunshine Corazon (Glee)
In the popular series Glee, numerous characters have appeared and disappeared, but one that stands out is Sunshine Corazon. She was a transfer student who boldly challenged Rachel’s limelight during Season 2, even to the point where Rachel manipulated Corazon into visiting a drug den. Although we saw her once more on the show, she was never heard from again, despite her powerful singing voice.
John Bennett (Orange Is The New Black)
Initially in the early seasons of Orange Is The New Black, there seemed to be a way for John Bennett to stay involved. However, he ultimately abandoned Daya and their child when he got cold feet. After that, we never learn what happened to him again. Even though the cast of Orange Is The New Black continued to shine without him, his sudden departure was noticeable.
Lincoln (The 100)
I’m quite fond of the series “The 100” and believe it’s an excellent choice if you’re looking for a show with unpredictable twists. Occasionally, though, I find myself overlooking the moments when the storyline was more earthbound, like when Octavia developed feelings for a man named Lincoln, who instructed her in the ways of being a Grounder. Sadly, he was killed off a few seasons ago, leading Octavia to transform into the fierce warrior we know today. Don’t you think we often forget about him, though?
Nicole (Zoey 101)
It’s really a sad story about what happened to the actress behind Nicole in Zoey 101, and I stand by her in what she has done standing up to the wrong situations behind the scenes at Nickelodeon. But that doesn’t change the fact that her character, Nicole, was also completely forgotten in the show. Out of all the characters in the series, she didn’t have much of a story and ended up getting written out entirely as the show went on.
Cathay Simms (The Office)
In the popular show “The Office,” it’s undeniable that Jim and Pam’s relationship holds great significance. Yet, it’s important to note that there were other women who played roles in Jim’s life. One such woman was Cathay Simms, a lady who attempted to pursue him during a business trip. Unfortunately, the trip didn’t go as planned. When they both returned to Scranton, she seemingly vanished from the scene completely.
Simon (The Walking Dead)
It’s possible I might receive criticism for this statement, but let me be clear: during my recent rewatch of The Walking Dead, I completely forgot about Simon until he appeared again. The primary reason for this oversight, I believe, is because Negan turned out to be such an extraordinary character that most of his followers seemed insignificant, even when they held crucial roles in the storyline, like Simon did. Unfortunately, he met his end, so perhaps it’s not a significant detail in the bigger picture.
Jacqueline “Jackie” Ames (The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air)
Initially, Tyra Banks graced the screen in Season 4 of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, portraying Jackie, a longtime friend of Will’s from his past. Their on-screen chemistry was electrifying, but after an unfortunate night of partying and her growing frustration with Will’s actions, Jackie chose to depart the show. From that point forward, Jackie was no longer featured in the series.
Scott Rosson (Gossip Girl)
Indeed, it seemed quite significant when Dan and Serena discovered they had a half-brother on “Gossip Girl”. However, after some time, he seemingly disappeared without any explanation. Even during a family gathering, this important detail was barely mentioned again. It’s almost as if the existence of a half-brother was forgotten. One might wonder how such a crucial familial connection could be so easily overlooked.
Abby Day (New Girl)
It might amaze you to know that Jessica Day, our character from the show, has an older sister named Abby Day. The talented actress Linda Cardellini portrayed her. Interestingly, she only appeared once in the series, and afterwards, she was never seen again, which is quite unusual given that New Girl often maintains a strong continuity with its characters.
Santiago Herrera (Friday Night Lights)
In another instance, a notable character from “Friday Night Lights” Season 2 simply disappeared in the subsequent season without explanation. His role was substantial and his storyline was engaging, but after that, there has been no clue about the fate of his character. It’s as if he just vanished off the face of the show.
Frank Jr. (Friends)
In the popular TV show “Friends”, Phoebe had a unique situation when she became pregnant with triplets by her half-brother, Frank Jr. Although it might be hard to recall, this event actually took place. Initially, it appeared that Frank Jr. would play a larger role in the series, but after the birth of the triplets in the 100th episode, he and his family seemed to appear less frequently in subsequent episodes.
Olivia Burke (Gossip Girl)
Many unremembered individuals made appearances on the show “Gossip Girl,” and among them was Hilary Duff, who portrayed Olivia Burke. Her character appeared for just six episodes, which might be why she’s easy to forget, but when revisiting the series, it seems she ought to have played a more significant role within the “Gossip Girl” ensemble. She was a commendable addition to the show.
Robin Sylvester (Glee)
Sue had a daughter.
Indeed, that’s accurate. Let me repeat it for clarity – Sue Sylvestor had a child, who she named after her late sister, but we seldom see her again, even as an infant. Frankly, I highly doubt you recalled this fact earlier.
Detective Daniels (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)
Alright, while what happened to Detective Daniels isn’t that surprising, it’s still a good thing to point out. This character was introduced in the pilot of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but we never see her again after. This isn’t the first time a show has cut people out from the pilot, but still, a character that we totally forgot about.
Tara (The Walking Dead)
Among the many secondary characters on “The Walking Dead”, Tara is one who has persisted for multiple seasons and yet, I often find myself needing to recall her. Perhaps it was because her narratives seemed to take a backseat compared to other events happening in the show, but it always catches me off guard when I realize that she evolves into an important character.
Tori Scott (Saved By The Bell)
In the later seasons of “Saved By The Bell”, a fresh character named Tori emerged. She managed to form friendships within the group and had romantic entanglements with two males, but her presence lasted only for ten episodes before disappearing, rarely being referred to since.
Matt Rutherford (Glee)
The cast of Glee is constantly changing, with new faces joining and others leaving, but for some reason, Matt Rutherford, a background character from the first season, seems to be often overlooked. With so many eccentric characters in the show, it’s understandable that he faded into obscurity during Season 2. However, we can’t help but remember (and forget) you, Matt.
Charles Miner (The Office)
Every time I rewatch “The Office,” I invariably overlook that Idris Elba made a guest appearance. In the series, he portrayed a new Vice President at Dunder Mifflin who had a rocky relationship with Michael. Despite his funny performances on the show, his character didn’t have a lasting impact or stand out as memorable.
Ben Geller (Friends)
In Friends’ first season, there was quite a fuss about Ross having a baby with his ex-wife, yet he wasn’t around much in the series that followed. Fortunately, we did catch glimpses of him maturing when Cole Sprouse portrayed him, but prior to that, it felt like Ross’s son Ben Geller was hardly mentioned at all.
Dani (Glee)
Growing up as a bisexual woman, encountering Dani on “Glee” significantly impacted my perspective. I yearned for her character to remain a permanent fixture because her partnership with Santana, both in terms of their singing abilities and romantic connection, was captivating. Regrettably, Dani (and Demi Lovato) didn’t stay on the show for too long, which meant that eventually, Santana returned to Brittany.
Isaac Lahey (Teen Wolf)
The continuous influx and outflow of characters in these teen supernatural series can be quite bewildering, with Isaac Lahey, a former student at the franchise’s main school, being one such character who appeared one season but was absent the next.
Ruby Lucas (Once Upon A Time)
In the series “Once Upon a Time,” Ruby initially appeared to be a significant character. However, as viewers of this show are aware, multiple storylines started intersecting and overshadowing potentially excellent ones, such as Ruby’s. Regrettably, her storyline was one that got lost in the shuffle. Despite eventually receiving a happy ending, she is not as well-remembered now.
Tina Pinacotti (That ‘70s Show)
It turns out that there was a character portrayed as Donna’s little sister named Tina, who appeared in one episode about a party. However, following this initial appearance, Tina was not mentioned again, leading many viewers to forget her existence. Later on, Donna herself stated in several episodes that she is an only child, which seems to have contradicted the earlier portrayal of her having a little sister. This could be considered as a plot retcon.
Chuck Cunningham (Happy Days)
If you’re familiar with the show “Happy Days”, you may recall Chuck Cunningham, the sibling of Richie and Joanie. Regrettably, his role evolved into that of a supporting character and eventually disappeared from the series entirely.
Morales (The Walking Dead)
In a different phrasing, you might say: Morales appears only once more in The Walking Dead after the first season, when his character decides to depart with his family from the main group. Surprisingly, he later reappears as a member of Negan’s group, but ultimately meets his end at the hands of Daryl. Bringing him back just to kill him seems senseless and illogical.
Mutt Schitt (Schitt’s Creek)
In the series “Schitt’s Creek,” Alexis, one of the characters, had several romantic entanglements, including Mutt Schitt. However, their relationship didn’t last long and eventually dissolved just as swiftly as it started. It’s unfortunate because he was quite humorous.
Isla (Succession)
The cast of “Succession” is incredibly talented, with characters full of depth. One character who particularly evolved throughout the show’s four seasons is Roman Roy. However, it might surprise you to know that in Season 1, he had both a wife and a daughter named Isla. Interestingly enough, we seldom heard about this daughter during any season, making her almost like an unspoken part of the storyline.
Cooper Anderson (Glee)
Blaine had a brother who was portrayed by Matt Bomer, and they performed some fantastic duets on the show. Regrettably, this brother reappears neither in the final episode nor anywhere else afterwards. He was an excellent addition to the cast as he provided Blaine with motivation to improve his singing skills (although he was already quite good), but sadly, we don’t witness him in the finale or any other scenes.
Otis (The Walking Dead)
Among the numerous deaths in “The Walking Dead” series, one that often goes unremarked is certainly Otis. A worker on Hershel’s farm, Otis, met his gruesome end when Shane left him behind, resulting in his being devoured by zombies. He appeared in just a few episodes and was never referred to again in the series.
Ken Tanaka (Glee)
In previous seasons, Ken Tanaka served as the football team coach at McKinley and was involved with Emma. Unfortunately, following a mental breakdown, he disappeared from the series, and Coach Beiste assumed his responsibilities instead. Since then, Ken has not made another appearance on the show despite having a significant role in the first season.
Have any of these selections reminded you of something? They definitely brought back memories for me, and now I need to watch them all over again.
