As a gamer who’s been around the block more times than I care to count, I can confidently say that hearing about the behind-the-scenes stories of big-budget movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home is nothing short of exhilarating. Vasilios Tanis, the makeup artist for Agatha All Along, shared some tantalizing tidbits from his time on set and it’s left me green with envy.
As we approach the third anniversary of “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, it’s hard to believe that this much time has passed! It seems like just yesterday when fans were eagerly dissecting trailers and listening to Andrew Garfield dismiss rumors about his participation. Despite the passage of time, many of us still cherish memories from watching the epic threequel in cinemas. Those who worked on the project likely have their own unique stories, one such individual being makeup artist Vasilios Tanis. He recently shared stories with TopMob about socializing with the three Peter Parker actors and enjoying Jamie Foxx’s lively energy (I can only imagine what it would be like to have been a bystander!).
Vasilios Tanis generously agreed to chat with me about his current project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – the critically acclaimed “Agatha All Along“. Being a fan of the franchise myself, I couldn’t resist asking him about his time on the set of the blockbuster hit “No Way Home“. Tanis was clearly excited as he reminisced about working with director Jon Watts on his third Spider-Man film. The experience left a lasting impression on him due to his personal love for the franchise.
As a die-hard Marvel enthusiast and longtime comic book devotee, I can confidently say that Spider-Man: No Way Home was an unforgettable spectacle. Being part of the team that breathes life into these beloved stories is more than just a job for me; it’s a dream come true. It’s incredible to have my profession intertwine with my passion, allowing me to delve deeper into these captivating mythologies and channel my creativity through these iconic characters. Truly an immense honor!
The artist behind Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is certainly fulfilling fans’ dreams by working on comic book-based productions, given his longtime passion for superheroes. While it’s easy to feel envious, I’m genuinely happy for this veteran makeup artist. It’s not hard to imagine how he might feel overwhelmed being on set, as I would likely feel the same way. After all, he had the privilege of working alongside actors like Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Alfred Molina. Mr. Tanis couldn’t help but express his excitement about being near such esteemed performers.
Working as the department head for that project alongside Tobey Maguire, and being part of an ensemble with stars like Willem Dafoe, it was simply extraordinary. Having not one, but three Spider-Men together in one place at the same time was truly remarkable. The camaraderie back at the trailer and preparing them for their scenes was nothing short of magical. And let me tell you, some of those scenes were so iconic that they left everyone on set, including myself, speechless. It was undeniably a unique and unforgettable experience.
All of that sounds cool enough, but then you have to consider that the enthusiastic Jamie Foxx was also in the mix. The actor reprised his role as Max Dillon/Electro in the film and was quite enthusiastic about that in the lead-up to its release (so much so that he spoiled his involvement early on). When it comes to Foxx’s on-set energy, Vasilios Tanis suggested that the Oscar winner helped cultivate a party-like atmosphere, and his account of events sounds awesome:
The atmosphere was simply incredible! Everyone was constantly joyful. And when Jamie Foxx arrived, it felt like a celebration on the set. He’s an extraordinary individual, full of positivity, kindness, and fun. He just radiates fun! He brought a large boom box and filled the set with music, causing everyone to dance – producers included. We all had a wonderful time between takes. Truly, it was a unique and memorable experience.
It’s no secret that Jamie Foxx knows how to enjoy himself, right? Frankly, if I could have been on set for all that fun, I would have been overjoyed! Sadly, I can only experience the excitement through the stories shared by the makeup artist from WandaVision. The Spider-Man: No Way Home movie is a real gem, and it’s heartening to learn that those involved in its creation had as much fun making it as viewers did watching it.
Right now, you have the option to either purchase or lease the extended edition of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” on Amazon Prime Video. Moreover, don’t forget to watch “Agatha All Along” and the Marvel films sequentially by subscribing to Disney+.
