As a seasoned RPG enthusiast with countless hours spent in the fantastical realms of Dragon Quest, I can confidently say that navigating Dreamer’s Tower was a true testament to my gaming prowess! The Thief Key quest was an exhilarating journey filled with challenging battles, strategic resource management, and a dash of exploration.
In Dragon Quest 3 Remake, one crucial item to obtain early on is known as The Red Door Opener – which is similar to The Thief Key, as it’s used to unlock the doors with a red bar.
In the primary plot of the town called Reeve, located up north, you’ll need a crucial item – the Thief Key – to move forward. Here’s a guide on how to get it.
How to Get The Thief Key
Stop by Aliahan Castle to gather information before you begin your adventure.
From the southeastern part of the ground floor, you access the castle’s basement by walking through the garden and the eastern room first.
Two prison cells reside in the basement. One of them confines a man with a mask on, who humbly requests aid in unlocking his door.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as: “In the second spot, there was Kirk Buzzer, a character who once held the Thief Key but unfortunately dropped it inside Dreamer’s Tower.
Make sure to fully prepare before heading to Dreamer’s Tower.
As an enthusiast, I always make sure my team is geared up and loaded with essential supplies before delving into the multi-level labyrinth teeming with formidable foes.
Chimera Wings are a must-have item. They allow you to fast-travel back to safety if the situation becomes too dire.
Equip your team with weapons that can deliver multiple attacks, ideal for handling larger groups of enemies. Ensure you have an ample stock of healing supplies for prolonged battles.
If you find yourself not strong enough, spend some time battling foes around Aliahan to boost your team’s power.
To get to Dreamer’s Tower, you should travel southwest from the town of Reeve, which can be found to the north of Aliahan.
After that, head towards the southwest direction and locate the Plain’s Shrine, a modest, squared building noticeable on your global map.
While the shrine is locked, Dreamer’s Tower’s entrance is nearby.
To find a secret tunnel carved into the slope beyond the shrine, venture towards the west. Once you’ve found the entrance, feel free to delve into the depths of the subterranean labyrinth that awaits.
Basement (B1)
The first area introduces random encounters with enemies like Bunicorns, Toadies, and Slimes.
Despite their individual weakness, they frequently appear in large numbers, necessitating multiple-target attacks for swiftly taking them down.
Use Frizz (Fire) against Antnibblers and Crack (Ice) or Zap (Lightning) for Toadies.
Additionally, you could arm your characters with versatile tools such as boomerangs or spells capable of striking numerous enemies at once.
Keep an eye on your health; prolonged encounters can still wear your party down.
In your journey, you’ll find numerous treasure chests along the way. A few of these chests can only be opened with a Thief Key, meaning you’ll have to come back at a later time to claim their contents.
The goal is to locate the staircase leading up to the first floor (1F).
First Floor (1F)
This floor introduces tougher enemies, including Batterflies, which are weak to Woosh (Wind) and Bang (Explosive) spells.
As a gamer, I find these foes particularly elusive due to their nimble moves and swift strikes. Their ability to dodge and counterattack keeps me on my toes, making every battle unpredictable and exhilarating!
Focus on using precise, individual skills to take down targets swiftly, rather than scattering your power among several opponents at once.
This floor also has an inn on the west side where you can heal and rest your party.
This is especially useful if your party is weak after the basement battles.
Search the floor for items such as Chimera Wings and Antidotal Herbs. Once prepared, proceed towards the stairs that lead to the second floor (2nd level).
Second Floor (2F)
The difficulty ramps up on this floor, introducing new enemies like the Prestidigitator.
This enemy casts magic attacks that trigger the Frizz spell.
These enemies can cause heavy damage to your group, especially if they target weaker members.
Initiate aggressive physical attacks or cast spells such as “Crack” (Ice) specifically against Agile Illusionists, as these types of attacks can cause them significant damage due to their inherent vulnerabilities.
Protect vulnerable characters by keeping your healer ready to restore health between attacks.
You must search every corner for treasures like Mini-Medals before going to the third floor (3F).
Third Floor (3F)
Take note of the dungeon’s layout here, especially since the third floor has branching paths.
One route leads to more treasures, while the other takes you to the fourth and final floor (4F).
Keep an eye out for Waspions, because if provoked, they might summon additional support. Waspions have the ability to inflict significant harm and prolong fights by calling for reinforcements.
Act swiftly, using powerful strikes or magic, aiming to eliminate them first during combat, since they are more critical than other opponents.
If additional help arrives, prioritize taking out the Waspion initially to halt the loop. Then, concentrate on finding the appropriate stairway to continue ascending.
Fourth Floor (4F)
Reaching the fourth floor (4F), you’ll encounter mixed versions of previous enemies.
Focus on enemies like Prestidigitators and Waspions by exploiting their weaknesses.
Regularly heal your party and use status-boosting items or spells to maintain the upper hand.
If funds are limited, it might be wise to temporarily withdraw to the upstairs inn as you prepare for the final part of the journey.
The final area is also split into two sections: the main chamber and an outer one.
Head to the third floor and use the central staircase to reach the main chamber.
You’ll meet an old man inside who hands you the Thief Key after you speak with him.
Behind the old man, there’s a treasure chest. A bookshelf nearby also holds a rare book that alters a character’s personality and boosts their stats.
Thanks to the Thief Key, you can now unlock red doors across the game world.
