As a long-time fan who’s been through firefighters, cops, and medics in Chicago more times than I can count, hearing about One Chicago‘s upcoming three-show crossover has me jumping for joy! It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Windy City unite in crisis, but an office building explosion? Now that sounds like the perfect storm (or should I say, firestorm) to bring our beloved characters together.
Contrary to what you might have expected, the most thrilling development in NBC’s One Chicago universe this week isn’t just the impending fall finales in the 2024 TV lineup. Instead, it turns out that Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med are rumored to be participating in the franchise’s first three-show crossover since 2019! This exciting news follows recent reports where stars from the series have shared details about the episodes they’ve already filmed for airing as part of the 2025 TV season.
One Chicago’s Long-Awaited Crossover
As TVLine reports, it’s rumored that a thrilling three-part crossover event is being planned for the latter part of the 2024-2025 television season. This would mark the first such event for One Chicago since before the pandemic, with the previous one focusing on an infection necessitating quarantines in Chicago in late 2019. You can now rewatch this “Infection” crossover with a Peacock subscription.
The article suggests that the plot revolves around a massive office building explosion, so extensive that it impacts the city’s infrastructure both underground and aboveground. This type of calamity seems to be a situation where the expertise of firefighters, police officers, and medical personnel would undoubtedly be essential!
It appears that Deadline’s sources indicate that there is yet to be a clear storyline decided for this potential crossover, suggesting it might still be in its early development stages if it indeed progresses as anticipated. This would mark the first announcement of a three-part series slated for the 2024-2025 television season. Interestingly, the showrunners of Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med have reportedly been keeping in touch via text to ensure their shows remain connected, as they mentioned during their conversation with TopMob early in fall.
Lately, I had conversations with actors from each of the series, and they revealed where they’ve already filmed for this season. These insights might hint at an upcoming crossover, if one pays close attention.
What The Stars Told Us About The 2024-2025 TV Season
During NBC’s One Chicago press event, I had the good fortune to chat with David Eigenberg from Chicago Fire, Benjamin Levy Aguilar from Chicago P.D., and Steven Weber from Chicago Med about their characters’ journeys, BTS anecdotes, and Archer’s challenging storyline respectively. This conversation took place before the news of a potential three-show crossover was announced, and just days before the episodes aired on November 13. I inquired about how far they had progressed in their respective seasons, with Eigenberg being the first to share his insights.
As a gamer, I find myself diving back into the game with Episode 11. I’ve been sidelined for a couple of levels due to an unfortunate injury – I ruptured my Achilles tendon. So, I took a brief hiatus from the adventure. It’s been quite a strange year, having to step away and let the story unfold without me for a while.
As a gamer, I’ve been part of the “Fire” team, and we’ve been busy filming Episode 11 way back in mid-November. That means we’ve already got several episodes past the upcoming fall finale under our belt – it’s episode eight of Season 13! However, David Eigenberg isn’t giving away any secrets about the fall finale, jokingly hinting over Zoom that he’s keeping all the spoilers to himself.
You’d have to be here and break my arm to get anything out of me!
I had a chat prior to our upcoming episode with Benjamin Levy Aguilar, as it was set to include covert operations. He provided insights on what scenes from Chicago P.D. were captured for the show.
We’re currently filming Episode 11, so we’re halfway there.
As a dedicated gamer, let me share my takeaways from the recent chat I had with Steven Weber during NBC’s virtual gathering. Beyond discussing Archer and Lenox’s critical juncture, he opened up about some fascinating details regarding what they’ve filmed for Chicago Med.
We are up to, I want to say, Episode 10 or 11, so we’ve done a lot. About halfway through.
Are these comments offering any insight into an explosion that might significantly impact Chicago during primetime television in 2025? Of course not, but filming their eleventh episodes simultaneously suggests that Fire, P.D., and Med have maintained synchronization since beginning their new seasons with a simultaneous time jump. This could theoretically make a crossover episode easier to manage behind the scenes.
Given the lack of specific information regarding the timeline for a crossover, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the event will air significantly later in the year 2025 compared to Episode 11 from each series. If One Chicago resumes on NBC as early as the start of the new year, as is customary, then Episode 11 would likely be broadcast towards the end of January or early February, considering that the fall finales are typically a series’ eighth episode.
Essentially, I wouldn’t expect a crossover event in the One Chicago series before March, but we’ll have to wait and see. Recently, I inquired about David Eigenberg’s feelings on returning to a full 22-episode season following the abbreviated Season 12, and he replied: (Providing the actual response given by David Eigenberg)
Our show is unique due to our close-knit work family, which might be perceived as somewhat unconventional. There have been challenging times when personal issues arise, but overall, we share a strong bond and spend most of our day laughing together. The crew managing the set finds it akin to herding cats when newcomers join, as our energy can be lively and spontaneous at times. Unlike some sets, ours is not overly focused on individual careers, but rather, we prioritize supporting one another. This morning, I conversed with several colleagues about personal matters, demonstrating the empathy and concern we all have for each other.
Unfortunately, there’s no new episode coming up for the remainder of this year, as a three-part series hasn’t been officially announced yet. However, the fall finales for One Chicago will air on November 20th, starting with Chicago Med at 8 p.m. ET, followed by Chicago Fire at 9 p.m. ET and wrapping up with Chicago P.D. at 10 p.m. ET, all on NBC.
As a devoted viewer, I’m thrilled to say that you have the opportunity to relive past crossovers during the winter break! That’s because all episodes from the first season of each show are now available for streaming on Peacock.
